Edit: OK, it's the next day now, and here she is:

So far, my impressions are favorable. The black oxide finish is actually a little glossier than it appears to be in the photos. The fit of the sideplate is slightly better than on my brushed stainless model 65, and out of the box the trigger pull feels even better.

This was my first experience with Taurus Customer Service, and I am happy. Other than the long wait, but keeping in mind that this fell right in the middle of their move from Miami FL to Bainbridge GA, I thought everything was handled professionally. Both times I called to inquire about the progress of my return the people that I spoke to were pleasant, helpful, and competent. The second time, when I was informed that my 971 was "unrepairable", I negotiated for a different pistol than a 65 for my exchange, and the young lady immediately put me on hold to speak to her supervisor, who consented to the change - unfortunately the revolver that I chose was out of stock, so I switched back to the 65.

We'll see how the finish holds up.
OK, first snag. I went to the https://warranty.taurususa.com web site to register this new model 65 for the warranty. However, when I entered the serial number (verified on the barrel as well as on the tag on the box) I got an error telling me to enter a valid serial number. What's up with that? Do you think that this is such a new revolver that they haven't entered the serial number into the database yet? Do you think they're not going to give a warranty on a replacement revolver? What say you all?

It's got a lifetime warranty at least to you. They are infamous for not updating the website. Free shipping for returns only lasts for 4 months or so, so shoot the heck out of it to be sure it's good to go.

Update just went and picked it up, looks pretty nice.

Just got a call from my ffl that my replacement revolver is in. It's been a long 9 months. I first chose a Taurus 605 replacement for my R462 but it's been on backorder forever it seems. I called a few weeks ago and ask if anything else was in stock to speedup the process. I chose the 605 poly protector instead of the stainless one. I just hope I made the right decision. Anyone have the poly 357? thoughts?

    Rossi Recall too long

Meanwhile, 8 other manufacturer's have put about 10 new handguns on the market, and Kimber has designed new revolver. (see this month's American Rifleman) How difficult can this be? Why not just give everybody a credit toward a new Taurus? I'd like a 4" Mod 66 to go with my 6" Mod 66.

Trouble is ---- I don't even want the dang thing anymore. A pal of mine runs a monthly booth at the local gun show and could probably get me 200 to 300 for it. But my conscience won't let me sell it to someone who might shoot himself with it if it's really defective.

Maybe Rossi just don't like Texans.
I spoke with a live person at Braztech in February to confirm they received my R351. The person told me it would take at least 12 more weeks before I hear whether Taurus will fix or repair my revolver. She attributed this to Braztech repair moving to a new facility and having to replace people. If Taurus decides to replace my revolver, then I have to go through an FFL dealer ($$$) and then register it with the police (Michigan). If they decide to repair it, it will be sent directly to my house. Sounds like they are really in a mess. Never had repair problems with their rifles - they made the repairs and shipped it back in ten days.

Welcome from Northern Illinois. I am surprised that they are still using the theme "fix". There is no repair possible and people have gotten replacements as stock is available. New guns have to be processed through an FFL and when you send them the receipt for the charge they will reimburse you. Any guns that can be repaired can be sent back to the point of origin. I sent two in a couple of years ago using my FFL as he was able to ship them USPS and save me money and they insisted on shipping back to his address.

I never knew that MI had gun registration.

I thought you might like to know. I got my replacement revolver from Taurus yesterday. I stoped by my local gun store and there it was. It had been sent to them about a week ago with my name on it, and Taurus never notified me that it had been sent. I have only been waiting since June 1998 for the replacement.
Hope this helps the rest of you .

They have been known to send them with no name on the shipment. If anyone was told a replacement was in the works, check with the FFL that you listed on the repair order.

I finally got my new revolver from taurus last week, to replace my Rossi that I sent in back in June of 2018. It came in to my local gun shop and I only found out about it from them when I visited the store.
Said it had been there about 2 weeks with my name on it. Taurus never notified me that they shipped it.

The FIRST thing I did after supplying Taurus with my FFL of choice for my recall replacement was personally call said FFL and provide them ALL my contact info - name, e-mail, home phone, cell phone and exactly what model Taurus will be coming to them soon. My FFL called me when it arrived. Can't imagine why your FFL just sat on your gun.
