It is to my understanding that all modern Rossi firearms were in fact being manufactured by Taurus and merely branded as Rossi, ergo it wouldn't make any sense for Taurus to discontinue the distribution of Rossi brand firearms. It is most likely that Taurus merely discontinued the production of Rossi brand firearms due to their financial troubles in the wake of the Class Action Lawsuit which was filed against them and the subsequent millions they lost as a result. If anything, Rossi Revolvers were discontinued because Taurus needed to cut corners wherever possible in order to recoup their losses, and they felt that continued production of Rossi Revolvers wasn't profitable enough.

That being said, I feel your pain. It is all too often that I have witnessed firearms which I would have loved own become discontinued, then wishing that I had made the purchase of one a priority.
Hopefully once Taurus gets back into a good financial situation they'll resume production of Rossi Revolvers.

From a financial aspect it makes sense to drop Rossi branded handguns if they are the ones making them. A huge portion in any companies budget is advertising. You split your efforts on who to concentrate the budget on. Then there is the BATF records to keep separate just to keep the serial numbers and licensing fees for import.

By splitting the two into a long gun versus hand guns does keep both simple in record keeping and appropriate budgeting. However, Taurus does seem to be retreating on the Rossi long gun offerings. CAS shooters were a major purchaser and there have been feeding issues and parts breakage that has plagued the 92 series as well as bad press. However, the 92 design was/is the problem. Originals would have the same parts breakage, but would have been better fitted for feeding. I have a .357 92 and love it, but I also know their short comings. There is a good reason why Winchester was never able to get their lever guns adopted as a standard military arm.

I personally think Taurus should step back and access what market they should be concentrating on. Their revolvers are legacy items and they should concentrate on bring old school designs forward. In short, work with what they know and improve those designs. They should be thinking on ways to smooth up their actions and out do S&W at their own game. There are so many new finishes out there to make the trigger works act like they are on bearings.

This applies to their 1911 and 92 designs as well.

In my humble opinion (and I've said this for years), Taurus spent too much time and money trying to reinvent the wheel, designing and marketing a new gun what seemed like every 15 minutes (many of which were plagued with issues).

    Their basic old school guns, the 80, 82, 85, 65, 66, 686, PT92 etc were great guns.

That said, my one and only Rossi will not be traded, it's freaking stellar. If it doesn't last maybe I'll change my mind but as of right now you couldn't pull it away from me with a tractor.

Once upon a time I had an older Model 10 creampuff that I thought was the worlds greatest gun (you know, the kind of gun that the tough guys in the Smith forum own). I wish I had it today so I could shoot it against the Rossi, just me and those two guns. It's hard to remember a trigger you haven't pulled in years but I just can't imaging that it was any better than the trigger on my 461.

The Rossi hits where it's pointed, I mean really hits where it's pointed...

Mucho likes for your Rossi, very nice looking. I like you am sad to see Rossi revolvers riding off into the sunset. I did see an ad in Guns and ammo a few months ago from Rossi about their lever rifles. So maybe there is hope for at least some Rossi rifles coming back out again. I am still undecided about the 856/857 new Taurus revolvers. So far I have found 3 reviews - one had a problem right out of the box, the other two were ok. Of the two that were ok, the writers weren't revolver guys, so some of their testing left a little to be desired. HEY TAURUS IF YOU ARE WATCHING THIS FORUM, I am one of your biggest review content providers, how about a T&E 856?? I made that same request twice in the last year to TaurusUSA corporate, but alas no response.

In my experience Rossi revolvers sold for a bit less money than their Taurus counterpart. However I can find no flaw in the workmanship of my Plinker. As I said, the metal finish is highly polished and the resulting blue job is spectacular. The vent rib took some craftsmanship to assemble. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. It is one of the finest looking guns I own.

One of my grandsons will inherit it as I'll hang on to it as long as I'm breathing.

It seems that at the very least Taurus isn't going to drop Rossi brand Rifles/Carbines. Early this it seemed so when several models had been removed from their website and their 2018 catalog was like 2-3 pages long, showing only the Matched Pair, Circuit Judge, and 92 Lever Action Rifle, but they have since readded certain models/chamberings to their website, which hopefully indicates that they will continue/resume production.

I really want a Rossi 92 in .45 Long Colt, but I honestly don't know if they'll still be available by the time I have the money for one, or if they're even still available factory new right now for that matter.

    Ya know, here's a thought;

It's possible that Rossi has all these goodies locked up in a big warehouse somewhere, including the revolver lineup.

Then, if the sun starts shining again they can ship them out and start selling.

    Wishful thinking, I know... LOL!
