.410 Brass Shot Shells for my Judge Poly Public Defender

    Hello,

I could not find a lee loader for .410 shot shells so I bought a similar hand loader from Lanes Reloading in New Boston, MI for the .410 Magtech brass shells. I could not find much load data for the Magtech brass .410 shells to use in my Taurus Judge pistol. Heres my load data that works well in my Taurus Judge Poly Public Defender.

    -Magtech brass 2 1/2" .410 casings
    -CCI large pistol primers
    -LilGun powder 10 Grains
-.430 diameter 1/8" thick nitro over powder card from circle fly wads
-.800 ounces of #4 lead shot which fills the casing almost to the top
-.450 diameter overshot card from circle fly wads
    - seal the overshot card in place with a mini glue gun from Home Depot

All these items are available from Ballistic Products except the glue gun.

    Sincerely,
    BigWoody1956

    from the Florida Keys!

I was looking at the same loaders on Friday, except for the plastic shells. How do you like it? I emailed them a question and got a pretty quick response. I would say that is a plus. I think for $37.00 with shipping I might give it a try.

I have been using 444 Marlin cases to load 410 shells for a Judge. Should work for you. Fast and easy. Flawless function, drop right out of the chambers, don't even have to use the ejector. Started doing it before the Judge was ever on the market for my single shot 410 pest gitter and just tried them in the Judge with outstanding success. Lots simpler than loading 410 shells.

I like the 410 brass case Lanes Reloader. Their instructions say you push the new primer in with the T handle tool on a flat surface. This works but after a few rounds my hand started to hurt so I now use the priming tool from my 45 Colt Lee Loader and a soft faced hammer to drive the new primers in. To me this is much easier.

Yes, I have heard the 444 Marlin brass works fine in a .410 however the case is a little shorter than the Magtech brass. You say its simpler. Don't you still need the same loading components no matter which brass case you use?

No, not the same components and not the same tooling either. No roll or star crimp, just an over shot card very lightly rolled into place using the bullet seating die or FCD. No sizing of the case is required, it doesn't expand at 410 pressures. Yes the case is slightly shorter but 2.5 inch data works well. I use the Winchester shot cup and Unique powder. Sometimes I mix shot and ball for duplex loads. Lots of room for experimenting with shot charges and a huge safety margin when using the 444 cases. The 444 cases will not feed from the magazine in the Marlin and Winchester Lever 410's, they do work in my Mossberg bolt gun and the break action singles and doubles SXS and O/U.
