    PT99AF rear sight issues......

Okay guys, Have a PT1911 but this PT99AF is driving me crazy. Friend has one and had trouble with the rear sight pin falling out. He manufactured one out of a paperclip and glued it in! (really!) Later, the rear sight notch cracked and half fell out. Only has half of a rear sight... That's when he comes to me with it. He called Taurus and they have the whole rear sight assy. for $40 but he wants an after market set, possibly fiber optic. I can't find any.... anyone know where I can get a set for this gun or is the factory set the only thing available?

Doesn't the PT99AF have the lifetime warranty?
Battle of Wanat: 10 years ago last 13 July, 1LT Brostram was killed in combat killing the last enemy combatant in the outpost. The LT went to the point of decision and made the difference that turned the tide of the battle. The original investigation found the Bde Cmdr, the Bn Cmdr and the Co Cmdr at fault for dereliction of duty. If you want to see what a sarcastic silver star citation reads like, pull up the company commander's silver star.

    Re: PT99AF rear sight issues......

this is a direct quote from the taurususa sight: "this warranty does not cover grips, sights, accessories, cosmetic defects after one year,or damage caused by customer abuse at any time.taurus will not be responsible for these items."

it would not hurt to call them and see what they say but i would get someone on the phone that was not simply a regular employee as i would really hate to send a firearm in,thinking they're going to cover me,and THEN find out different.

precisionsights.com makes a nice adjustable rear sight for the pt92/99/917/100/101. midway and others sell them too, just be aware that it sits slightly back from the rear of the slide but it also adds to the sight radius which is great because it basically adds the same length back to the 917 that it lost in making the shorter slide/barrel. if your going to carry,i'd prefer the standard pt92 sights.

also,i've never found a fiber optics rear sight.

what really bothers me about what they don't cover is not the sights or the other particulars,..what really bothers me is they don't cover grips. think about it. many taurus guns have a separate metal frame inside the grip.with some guns, the frame IS the grip. take a look at the 24/7 and then the pt92/99 to know what i'm talking about.

this makes me nervous as taurus could use their own definition to not apply the life-time warranty.in other words,if your frame/grip cracks,..what happens? are you covered? and on which one?

The grips attach to the grip frame of the gun. Some guns, like the poly frame guns do not have grips, just grip frames which are covered under the warranty.

    Re: PT99AF rear sight issues......

BigSkiff,so your saying that,in the taurus warranty disclaimer, what they are specifically refering to by "grips" and is not covered is only the side panels,..like say the rosewood grips/panels on the pt92 or 1911?(or the stock plastic ones)

if so,that makes alot more sense, thanks.

also,if you take a look at some schematics, taurus specifically calls the polymer part,of say a 24/7, a "grip",......and a metal "frame" that goes inside....but these would both be covered, correct?

i just want to be clear, thanks.

sorry for derailing your thread columbo.

They would be covered for manufacturer's defects but not cosmetics after the first year.

yeah, talked to Taurus and no go on replacement of sight. Gun manufactured 1991. They will sell one though. $40 bucks. Not too bad, but he wants fiber or night sights and I can't find any. 99AF has that funny pin on type. Anyways, just thought someone else found a fix for this. thanks Leejack.

Don't worry about. Thats what forums are for.

    Re: PT99AF rear sight issues......

wow,my mistake.sorry,i was totally wrong in my suggestion. i once again forgot that the pt99/101 rear sight goes on differently.

the precisionsight that i mentioned before is NOT meant for the pt99/101 but only for the pt92/58/100(and 917 which uses the pt92 rear sight).

i thought i'd post this before someone makes a mistake because of me.

again,my apologies. call it a brain fart or whatever.
