    Old PT92 first run.

Who knows about the first run of PT92's when they took over from Beretta?
I can't find much about serial numbers or when changes were made to trigger guard.
    I have a serial number I can't find. B-714xx.

And another thing, there are no other markings or stamping anywhere on the gun. Trigger guard and frame is as clean as a baby's bottom.

Have you tried Taurus customer service chat? It has been a while since I used the chat, but every time I've tried they respond within a few minutes.

I do have a Taurus with a serial number that is not recognized on their online serial number checker, and they were able to answer my questions on the chat. That is the only place I know to get authoritative information.

I called and can't get them on the phone. On line chat? I didn't see that option.
I had someone tell me that maybe its a Brazilian Beretta frame with a Taurus slide. That maybe Taurus had some old stock frames from Beretta when they took over? He didn't know if Taurus made the PT with a round trigger guard. The gun was given to my Uncle by a Taurus rep 40 years ago. He showed me when he got it.
    I''ll try on line chat.

Ok, sent an on line message. Email answer to come.

The heel release is the giveaway that it is a "recycled" Beretta frame. Beretta had the patent on that one until it expired. If you can find some old "heel release" Beretta mags, no mods are required at all for them to lock in place. From what I remember, Taurus took the Beretta frame, milled the relief for the safety on frame, slapped their parts/slide on it, and sold them. Most of the frames were cosmetic blems that Beretta rejected, however, they did make some of the early frames. Once the contract with Beretta ended in the early/mid 80's, Taurus was allowed to keep the equipment, blueprints, and produce their own line of Beretta clones on Beretta equipment. Little did they know the lowly 92 would one day earn the status it has. When Taurus added the decocker option later, they almost knocked Beretta off it's perch. I remember many LEOs carrying the 92 just because of the safety/decocker on the frame. Operated like a 1911, functioned like a Beretta, but for half the cost.

Mine is B579XX. I have been collecting Taurus 92 and Beretta 92 pistols for over 30 years and have only seen three of these, counting yours and mine.
