Shell holder slips on shotgun stock

This elastic Allen shell holder on my shotgun stock keeps sliding forward and twisting. Does anyone know of a way to keep it in place, that won't mar or ruin the finish of the old wood underneath the holder? For a 100 plus year old shotgun this one is in mighty fine shape, I'd like to keep it that way.

Every man should own a fine firearm, a fine knife and a fine watch.

It is a law of nature that that will slide towards the smaller part of the stock.
There is nothing you can do about it that does not affect the stock in some way except by attaching a strap to it that goes around the back of the butt plate.

I wonder if something like this might help.

Or maybe a silicone sheet material

I have nothing to contribute to your problem, but dang, I love old break action singles.

You know, some Gorilla glue and a piece of nylon strap might work fine as long as you don't get crazy with the glue.

I would suggest double sided carpet tape, or just some clear bathroom adhesive calking.

I had the exact same issue with my Grandfather's .410. I cut a piece of leather the same shape as the buttpad, and sewed it to the slip on shell holder. Simple and very effective.

^^ Solves the twisting problem also.
