WOW! That looks like a "select" slab of wood right there.

My single shot in .44 mag. has decent wood, but nothing like the .45/70. I received the replacement hammer springs today and replaced them on both of my rifles. It made a huge difference not only in the trigger pull, but also drawing back the hammer. I did leave the smaller inner spring and just replaced the outer spring. It's about a 5 minute job and just requires removal of the recoil pad, the bolt that holds the stock on, unscrewing the tube the springs are in and replacing the spring. The tube even unscrews by hand.

Now if I can just get the right combination of scope mount I'll be all set. I ordered another of the EGW Picatinny rails from Henry. It's the same as the one I have on my .44 mag. The Talley base I tried to use is one piece set up that includes the rings so I couldn't just get taller rings for it. If this EGW rail doesn't work for me using the medium rings that I already have, I should be able to just buy taller rings to get a fit. Heck I'm only trying to mount a scope with a 34mm objective lens.

I put the EGW rail on and it will need a high set of rings to fit the Redfield 2-7X34 scope I had. Rather than mount the scope too high above the bore I ordered another of the Leupold 2.5X20 ultra lightweight scopes like I put on my .44 mag. Henry single shot. I think I have about 5 of those scopes on various rifles and really like them. While it's not the perfect target scope it is ideal for big game and that will be this rifles main use.
