Takedown M4s for USAF Fighter Pilots

I found a report about M4s being modified to fit in Air Force pilots' ejection seat kits. They (rightfully) wanted something better than the M9 pistol in hostile territory.

Great story! Almost sounds like the civilian market had something ready when the military came calling. I'd sure as heck rather have 5.56 than 9mm. Very cool!

While the M9 was a good choice, the M4's are an infinitely better choice. You could probably even add in a 200 round battle pack of ammo to give downed pilots a much better chance at survival behind enemy lines.

If they can incorporate it into an ejected pilots seat.....wonder about using the same holster/ mounting hardware for our trucks/cars/suv etc. I would buy in. Easy to get to. Course nothing is better than a good ole back window gun rack

Great idea! I'm glad they came up with something that offers pilots better protection than just a pistol.

I am no military arms historian but I was not aware the AR15 was ever used in a US military action. The use of AR15 in a couple places in the article does bother me a bit.
After Al Kasasbeh's murder, the U.S. Air Force initially began inserting modified Vietnam War-era AR-15/M16 variants into survival kits.

I think they were just referring to the Ar-15 platform, which the M4/M16 is the military variant of

Yep..I got excited ..until I looked at the cost. I'll either wait for the knock off ...or the lottery.
