While browsing the .22 caliber rifles at my local gun store this morning, I came across this Anschutz model 1000 sitting, rather forlornly, among its more famous associates. Tag price is just under $200.

It's a single-shot, bolt action .22 long rifle that is badly in need of a good cleaning. The bolt action works, but it feels dirty, like it hasn't been cleaned in several years.

The "Anschutz" moniker is clearly stamped around the chamber. Just to the left, and above, the name is a German eagle with "XV" underneath, that has been stamped twice: Once on the chamber, and just ahead of that one, the same stamp on the barrel. I wasn't able to take a clean picture of them with my smartphone, they (proof marks?) are very small. You can just barely see them in the photo above.

FIREARMS INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION MODEL 1000 is stamped on the left side of the barrel. I assume this is the company that imported the rifle. I lost the picture of the right side of the barrel, it has GERMANY stamped on it.

The butt of the stock does not have a plate screwed to it, what you see is what was cut into the wood. I can only imagine the ferocious recoil waiting to be transferred to the shooter's shoulder.

I'm doing a bit of internet research (and we all know, everything you read on the 'net is true ). Just wondering what anyone here might know about it.
