    32ACP and the Beretta 81

I have to admit that I have never shot a 32ACP and was considering buying one of the Beretta 81's. Does anyone have experience with the 81 that they would like to share? Is this a good round for CC or is it just another "plinking" round?

I'll find out soon. Bummed out that brass is virtually unobtainable along with magazines. The surplus ones being sold currently are police turn in firearms from European agencies. Like every other firearm for self defense, from 22 LR on up, it's all about the type of ammo and skill of the shootist IMO.

32 ACP for self defense is just barely good enough. Be sure to use ball ammo as hollow points may have trouble with penetration.

Me too!! A P32 in your pocket is better than a big bulky 45 at home in the safe.

I've had the P32 for about 18 years now. I don't carry it but the gun sit's right under my living room recliner where I just reach down and it's in hand. My butt spends a lot of time in that recliner.

Regarding power, all guns can KILL or do major damage. As I posted in another thread, John Hinckley used a 6 shot .22lr revolver to take down Reagan, Brady, a Secret Service Agent, and a police officer. Sirhan-Sirhan also used a .22lr revolver to kill Bobby Kennedy with one shot. A .32 can do the job also. A pellet pistol or rifle...no.

    agreed!
I have seen several people killed by a 22 or a 25, and have seen several that survived a Shotgun blast.
for me however as the size is about the same I prefer to carry the most power I can handle in the same size platform, so I have 380 as a bottom line, same reason I prefer the 38 Super over the 9 MM, the 10 MM over the 40 S & W, etc.
I mean if my lazy %#@(&% has got to carry the weight I want the most bang for that if I need it.

I personally think the 32 Auto (lets not spin off into the 32 mag ) is a good choice for the very weak of hand, poor physical condition, Arthy and such.
they are basically in the same size , weight as modern 380 pistol but have a good bit less recoil and muzzle jump, many times the slides may be easier to rack as well.
OF course all this comes at a price--that price is reduced energy, I think if I remember right the 32 auto is about 50-65% as powerful as the 380?
additionally the ammo is harder to find, especially variations (IE anything other than FMJ) and more expensive.
