To really get back on topic, I found magazines for my soon to be here Beretta 81BB. I phoned Robertson's Trading Post in Henderson, TN and asked them if they were getting any into stock. The guy I spoke to said that they have model 84 magazines that they modified to work in the model 81. I received two today in the mail...28 bucks each with 3.00 shipping for 2 or more. They look great...haven't loaded any rounds yet, but the price beats the heck out of Beretta OEM mags from the maker.

they had a used Beretta 84 that was in very good condition for 420 bucks, it was on consignment.
only had 1 mag and no box , sound slike a decent price????
The Mauser broom handle and the Thompson semi auto machine gun was long gone though!
I always liked the Beretta but I have an ATI thats a clone so not looking for one now.
If I am correct I believe the 84 is the double stack .380. Nice gun! I don't know specifically what they're worth but as a point of reference I paid about $240 for my Model 81 including tax and shipping. Another $10 for the transfer.

Ahhhh so you pulled the trigger! Congrats! They are fun to shoot! How have you resolved the ammo issue?

I grabbed two boxes of 50 at the gun shop...16.00 each plus tax. I may grab two more on Saturday when I pick the pistol up.

I read quite a few reviews (I'm pretty sure it was on Robertson's web site) and there were mixed reviews about the modified 84 magazines. It seems some work and some don't. The blurb on their sales indicated there were three different magazines available and I sent them an email (they were very responsive) to clarify which did/did not hold the slide open when empty. Here was their answer when i asked about the slide lock:

We will have the ten rounders again, but they will be mec-gar as well. Both the 10 and 14 will hold the slide back.(Mec-Gar). They are flush fit, they will not protrude from the grip frame.

Please let us know how your "modified" magazines work in the 81.

Not sure but I would bet that the 81 mags are pretty much the same size as the 84 mags except for the upper top part and the opening of the feed lips.
Kind of the same with 1911 mags in 9 MM, 38 Super, 10, MM 0or 45 acp.
all mags fit in all frames but they will not work with al calibers.
now of course 1911 defender/officers mags won't work in commander and government but that's because they are to short to lock.
CZ went to all basic 75 design weapons use a single magazine for both 9 MM and 40 and they work very well .

Magazines are supposedly coming in early October...

I just came across this tonight--no affiliation and no experience with their veracity.

I signed up on their notify list also...they are right in Tony's backyard.

One thing comes to mind...when loading these tiny little pills in the magazine, one can forget using the standard Uplula loader as the tongue is too wide for the distance between the mag lips. Pretty sure that caused trouble in my CZ 83 magazines.

I've used the full size Maglula Uplula on the PT732 and PT132 magazines. I would assume it would work here too, but if not I have a Baby model that I bought for the PT22 that don't work at all on those.

I'm gonna have to go back and get on their notify list as well--I didn't see that. THANKS, CB!

Not too bad. Only one shop around here had them. $25 a box!!!! Crazy! Oh and though it was close my Upula worked fine on the Beretta magazine. Maybe the Mec-gars are a little tighter?
