It came in UPS today, good fast service from the supplier. When I saw it on the porch I was surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect, but thought the packaging would be larger. It's a box maybe 3 x 4 x 7.5" long. Succinct might be the word for it if it were a phrase! I cracked open the box, but haven't dug into it yet. Maybe tomorrow.

My action blocks get a lot of use, but these are on sale for $13.

So I am taking it that your upper was not assembled? You will need some anti-seize grease too.

When you install the gas block, take a straight edge and mark the barrel where it lines up over the gas port at the raised portion the gas block goes against and on the other side of the gas port far enough that the block does not cover it. Then with a thin straight edge, line it up with the block port and mark the leading and trailing edges. This way you can align the ports. Once you have the gas block installed, mark where the barrel meets the gas block fore and aft with some paint so you can tell if the block slips on the barrel.

Battle of Wanat: 10 years ago last 13 July, 1LT Brostram was killed in combat killing the last enemy combatant in the outpost. The LT went to the point of decision and made the difference that turned the tide of the battle. The original investigation found the Bde Cmdr, the Bn Cmdr and the Co Cmdr at fault for dereliction of duty. If you want to see what a sarcastic silver star citation reads like, pull up the company commander's silver star.

I have to rummage around and find my copper anti seize compound...it's got to be her somewhere from the last time I used it 20 years ago!

I brought the parts to the man cave this morning and opened it up to see if it's complete. The forward assist and the ejection port cover are loose in the box also. Thanks for the tip on the gas tube alignment! I won't invest any more in tooling at this point...I have some heavy leather to use in the vise for clamping the receiver while torquing the barrel nut...a Tipton gun vise for the rest of the operation.

Looking at these tools for 16 bucks delivered...as I am not going to be building one per week, the quality is not as much of a concern as is the price.

Got this in today's mail...it is of top notch quality. Thing weighs over a pound. I now have no excuse to get started on the build...the reflex sight came today from Amazon also.

I wonder if this Czech mother’s “rarest pregnancy” means she’s carrying AR uppers?

SOOOO!! obviously these black assault rifles are a passing fad!
that would have been funny though IF you really think about, they would be the only AR in the world that you could not buy magazines or parts for!!---- sorry sometimes my mind just takes to a place that I can't explain.

Now that there was funny and sadly true.

Instead of an AR thread, put a home build sub thread in Smithing. That way the 80% Glock and 1911 builders, and AK builders, can add their own unique input about techniques and tools.
