    New Colt in the stable

Did some trading the other day and picked up a Colt Detective Special in .38 Spl.
1975 gun that has a life of holster carry and very little range time told it was a policemanís gun or anyway that's the story I got with the gun.
As to the condition the forcing cone looks good. Cylinder has very slight play. Cylinder gap looks good but I havenít checked it with a feeler gauge and the gun has no end shake. Crane fitting is snug to the frame. Ejector rod is straight. Firing pin looks good. I donít see any sign that the side plate has ever been removed in fact I may have been the 1st one to take the grips off. Trigger feels factory on par with what a 75 Colt "D" frame came with. Overall a very nice old Colt.
I've got mixed emotions about it. On one hand I want to just move it on to a new owner as is, on the other I'm thinking about keeping it as a conceal carry gun and having it refinished. I already have a Colt Cobra with less wear showing than this gun but this one with the steel frame and already showing some wear would make a nice carry gun.

It is my personal belief that any religion that will let you have more than one mother-in-law at a time is not one you will be happy with.

Very very Nice!!! Congratulations and may it serve you well!

Had I lucked onto it, I would keep it in it's original condition/finish and just keep it!
    But that's just me!

Love it! If you decide to let it go, I'm sure you'll find willing purchases.

But don't refinish it! I see nothing in those photos that would make me even begin to consider refinishing! Clean it well and wax it, I'd say. Refinish it, and it will lose quite a bit of value. You're spending money you don't need to to have it refinished, and that decision will drive the value down. Okay, I'll stop there.

    Classic Colt goodness!

What GhostHorse said. Leave it as is. It literally shouts with tales of "The Rest of the Story." It's best value lies in being what it is, whether you keep it or sell it. And, should you decide to make a fair profit from it, please consider advertising in our TA classifieds first. A couple of us TA members in New Mexico just might be interested.

I mean, I would be interested. GH up there in Santa Fe, he wouldn't want it. Naw, don't even tell him.

Oh my what a nice looking Colt. The Cobra is still my favorite in that line, but the Det special is a close second.
