There is no problem with the pistol when used under ordinary conditions. All Canik pistols comply with and exceed current industry and military abusive handling standards.

This upgrade increases the durability of the springs, provides enhanced drop discharge prevention for heavy/severe duty conditions beyond current industry and military standards, and aims to better resist damage that may occur due to repeated abusive drops and other impacts.

We are offering a voluntary upgrade to the trigger safety spring and firing pin block spring. The voluntary upgrade applies to Canik's 9X19 mm pistols: TP9SA, TP9SF, TP9SFx, TP9SF Elite, TP9SF Elite-S. This is to further increase the safety of Canik pistols for enhanced drop discharge prevention in heavy/severe duty conditions that are beyond industry standards.

Our Goal is to have the Severe Duty Upgrade process in place by Friday, September 8, 2017. After this date, please visit www.CanikUSA.com for complete instructions on how to receive your Severe Duty Upgrade.

    Sincerely,
    Customer Service

So they're not calling it a recall.

At least we know that there might be an issue if you fail to hold on to your pistol.

Thank you! I did not think it was anything that I was going to worry about. Moral of the story, unless your in combat and get blown over, you probably don't have much to worry about.

I'm sending both mine in, as I frequently jump over 9 foot brick walls and run through various obstacle course like impediments during my daily errands. OK silliness aside, I can see some folks (police, military, combat trainers, super clumsy people needing this "safety upgrade"); me I think I'll be fine as I try to make others do acrobatics, not myself

Sounds like they are taking the path Ruger did on the older 3 screw model single actions. Sent it in and they will fix it but if used properly there is no problem. I sent in 2 of my old Rugers to have the transfer bar system installed and I like that they sent my old parts back with the gun for collector value.

Think they are handling it the proper way. Not like another manufacture whom I will not mention.

Guess the best way to shop for guns these days is to choose by who has the shortest list. 5 years ago the National Shooting Sports Foundation found that 40% of all guns produced and sold have some kind of defect. 40%.

Here's an article from 5 years ago on The Truth About Guns; to me the most telling statement regarding that 40% failure rate is "No other industry could survive with a failure rate like this.". NSSF: Shooting Industry Suffers from 40% Return/Defect Rate - The Truth About Guns

That's probably accurate, and not only that, but just the nature of the product being sold compounds the problem; we're talking about weapons here... this is the one product that can least afford to make safety mistakes.

Can you imagine car makers sending cars out to dealerships if they forgot to install brakes on 2 out of every 5?
Did not realize Taurus made so many guns for other companies.

Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.
