    S&W N frames

How do you tell the difference between square and round butts ? I've been thinking about putting either Pachymar or Hogue grips on my M29 and don't want to order the wrong ones. Thanks in advance.

Well sir- Just look at the bottom of the grip frame. If it is flat from front to back, it is a square butt. If it is flat, then tapers up, it is a round butt.

In this case, looking at the butts is acceptable.

Sometimes its best to take the grips off and look at the nekkid grip casting! There are grips that convert a round butt to a square butt, and you could have a round butt hiding underneath!
