    G2 Good,Bad,Ugly

Let me start by saying i like my G2 and it is
100% reliable and rests on my night stand where
it will stay. ( Not in my holster for EDC).

    The Good...
100% reliable like i said ( Most Important)
Plenty of upgrades available..( Night Sights, Guide rods,Traction grips etc).

    The Bad...
Finish on slide wears off fast if you carry in holster ( Buy in Stainless if you have that option)

Grip Texture way to aggressive and will chew you up if you carry it and you do not have 0%
Body fat..If you have love handles it will file them down for you! ( Buy grip overlays)

Magazines rattle ( This has been a great debate)
Some report that their mags rattle and others say theirs don't...HMMMMM.
Lets assume everyone is telling the truth and this is the case.
This leads me to believe Taurus had some tolerance issues on a run of them
and for whatever reason ignored it.
Maybe because they were selling them faster than they could make them.
I know...Buy o-rings or tape and put them on magazines!!...( shouldn't be necessary).

    The Ugly....

    Terrible mag release design!!!
My mag button fell out on the range.
So upon investigating i discovered what holds the mag release button in.
A tiny piece of steel wire that sits in a hole drilled in mag well and pushes against
the mag release button holding it in.
I glued mine back in and bent it inward so it would apply more pressure to the mag
    button....So far so good.

Add all this up and have decided to make it a nightstand gun.
Last time at range i was paranoid the mag release would fall apart
    again but it didn't.

I know its just a $200+ gun but i wish i would have not spent money
on night sights, guide rod and traction grips if i was not gonna end up
    carrying it.
That is my fault for not waiting, But excitement gets the best of me
    sometimes.

I think i will stick with my protector poly for carry from here on out.
Too bad they cant make a 12 shot revolver that you can conceal carry!..LOL

I carry my G2 every day, I have had no problem with the mag release. The mag on my G2 does not rattle, the wear from the holster gives the gun some character.

I own 3 PT-111 G2's. They all have mag rattle when using Taurus factory mags Not a deal killer, but annoying. Just to be clear this rattle is not the typical follower rattle that you hear from many manufactures mags (followers). In the Taurus it's the mag rocking in the well as one walks that causes it. My PT845's all have it too. So definitely a out of spec / or design issue. Small potatoes in the grand scheme, but nonetheless bothersome.

Guess I'll have to invest in a set of spurs to cover the mag rattle?

Zero issues in about 2200 rounds, no rattles, no misfeeds and the grip doesn't bother me..... Slide finish wear.... No biggie, any gun with a finish will show signs of wear if it is carried.
Out of all the complaints the one with the most merit is the mag release. I haven't had the issue but that is definately one that would be bad. The rattle may be annoying but mechanical things have tolerances, they may be within specs according to Taurus but just happen to be annoying. They are great guns for the price and I bet they have similar amounts of issues as more expensive guns. My guess is that those who have issues with Taurus are more likely to voice the displeasure. That is likely cause of Taurus service record.

Yeah, I've noticed mine rattles when the mags are loaded. Strangely, it didn't happen when they're empty, I guess the weight makes them rock more, thereby creating the rattling sounds. I'll probably fix it once I begin carrying though, it's not much of an issue presently.

Most people complain their guns don't have enough texture, some complain about too much... Can't please everyone.

The mag release is the same design Glock uses, it's kinda proven itself reliable. I don't doubt people have had issues with it, but it seems like a very small % of recent production. The G2 has been on the market for years.

Fixing a loose mag is not a difficult task, there are many ways it can be addressed.

Did you buy the gun sight unseen? Have you contacted Taurus about the mag release?

Captain Morgan...You are right...No need to defend you gun to me.
I have the same gun remember?
I did say i like it still.

Its not about more expensive guns have just as many issues...I don't care about others guns problems.
I was posting my experience with the G2 ....Not the G2 vs others.
I made it clear its 100% RELIABLE and I LIKE IT!

If i buy a Kimber for $700 and i will still do a honest post on my experience with it.
I have done that with a Kahr also and i did not start off my post by saying i liked it, Like i
    did with the G2.

My word surely isn,t the only word that means anything.
Its just another tool to share thoughts and experiences on firearms.
    And i shared mine.

    Have a good one

Or you can do what is recommended on TaurusArmed forum, use car wax. I mentioned that to someone I know who carries the G2, and he reported back to me that this worked out great for him, no holster wear. I did this to mine in prep for carrying but am not currently carrying it yet. Not that I don't trust it, it's just that the wife tried it and now considering it for herself. So I may be stuck with continuing to use the old 45 for awhile. (although "stuck" is probably not a good term for it)

Even though mine does not rattle, either when mags empty or loaded, I certainly do believe others who say it's been an issue. I've heard rattling on some PT111 G2's I've handled at gun shows and LGS, and not on others. I've occasionally seen other issues as well, more serious ones. Makes me glad I didn't order one sight unseen.

Someone on here mentioned a careful application of heat on the grip with a empty mag inserted, along with pressure. Not sure if that would really work, not sure how much temp would be required to remold the mag well opening. Not going to experiment with mine as I don't have a problem, but if I did I suppose that might be worth looking into. Has anyone actually tried something like this?

Nope i Handled it and i noticed it...Wasn't a deal breaker...Kahr has a pretty crude
magazine the way it hangs out with no base plate to speak of.

No way am i sending it to Taurus for 4 months on my dime.
I fixed it and am using it for my nightstand gun.

If people would read my whole post they would know.

I guess at the end of the day me saying i like the gun isn't enough
    for some.

I posted my dealings with the gun honestly.

people act like i called it a piece of junk.

I like it!! I like It! I like it....( See my original post)
