I am a US Veteran, one combat deployment, now I work for the Federal Government. I have been through the ringer a few times, had my share of life, and partied it up like a rock star. Now I live a nice family life with my wife, 3 kids, and four dogs and a cat that thinks she's a dog. I spend my off time training my dogs, going on runs with them. I believe life is simple. You make a choice, then you deal with the consequence or the reward. I volunteer at the animal shelter regularly to work with abused dogs and help them regain trust in humans again. I have been bit, scratched, and mauled but I still work with them because I believe dogs are inherently good. Its people who make them bad.
