    Picked up a Taurus yesterday...

I was originally looking for a sub-$500 9mm subcompact. I narrowed the field down to the Bersa Thunder UC, Ruger SR9c, and Taurus PT111. After putting them all in my hands, the Millenium Pro seemed the best fit, so I spent the afternoon thinking about it. Youtube and various reviews showed me that the PT145 was quite comfortable for a subcompact .45, so I actually ended up buying it instead of the PT111.

Put a box of WWB 230-gr ball through it yesterday evening to confirm. Recoil and report were both substantially less than I was anticipating. I'm not a .45 fanboy, and I specifically do not like 1911's, but the PT145 made me a believer.

Welcome from Lapeer,Michigan. Good choice for your first Taurus. There are a lot of us here that have 145`s and really like them. Make sure you give it a good cleaning to get the shipping grease out of it.

I'll join the bandwagon - I just ordered my first Taurus last night

PT-845 Stainless with 12+1 round mags - I can hardly wait!

Please be sure to let me know how you like the PT145 works for you - I have been eyeballing both the PT709 and the PT145 because I want to get my wife into firearms (pt709 probably wins here)

Re: Picked up a Taurus yesterday...

If someone can handle a 9mm loaded with +P, or a .40 S&W, then they can handle the PT145. The PT145 is my first experience with a subcompact .45. Prior to it, the smallest .45 I had fired was a USP Compact (which I didn't like). My experiences with 9mm and .40 S&W subcompacts led me to believe that a .45 subcompact would be unpleasant. After owning a few .40 S&W's, I have decided that the .40 and I were just not meant to be friends. I find the PT145 to be more comfortable and less snappy than my Glock 23 was.

If your wife gets a good grip, I see no reason why she would not like the PT145.

Oh I didn't figure it would really be that good on the recoil side of things - well heck I might just have to take your word on that one.

The only thing is, while I hear it's very manageable for somebody who knows what they're doing, I believe the PT-845 review I remember reading posted that it will dish out some recoil. I just don't see her liking it - especially because it's a full-framed model. But the compactness of the PT-145 is up her alley for sure. And we could share ammunition - nothing like a man and his wife sharing things, right?

Congrats. I've had my PT145 for several weeks now. It's become my primary CC and "fun gun" for the range.

Re: Picked up a Taurus yesterday...

Thanks for the welcomes gentlemen. I already experienced some lost time in the Millenium and CC subforums.

    AvengedXT,

Worst case scenario, she doesn't like the PT145, and you end up with an excellent .45 subcompact for yourself. As I said previously, I've never been a .45 fan, and I specifically dislike 1911's. I have fired plenty of .45's, but never found one that I actually liked. I decided to experiment with the PT145 after seeing videos indicating that it is quite manageable, knowing that I could quickly sell it and replace it with a PT111 if necessary. I was pleasantly surprised to find it more manageable than an XD .40 (subcompact) that a friend previously owned. It was not at all as I expected it to be.

I'm not saying that your wife will pick it up and start doing one-handed doubletaps by the second mag, but she shouldn't find it uncomfortable.
