Over around Anniston Army Depot there is a shop called Alabama Damascus. They generally turn out Damascus steel for Bear and Sons, and a few other big knife companies, but they also sell knife blade blanks at a very good price. I met them a few years ago at the Atlanta Blade Show and bought several of their blanks. They are really good old boys and their story is pretty inspirational on their website. You may want to try a few of their blanks when you can. I know I saw forged steel blanks at the shows, but I only see Damascus now on the website.

Battle of Wanat: 10 years ago last 13 July, 1LT Brostram was killed in combat killing the last enemy combatant in the outpost. The LT went to the point of decision and made the difference that turned the tide of the battle. The original investigation found the Bde Cmdr, the Bn Cmdr and the Co Cmdr at fault for dereliction of duty. If you want to see what a sarcastic silver star citation reads like, pull up the company commander's silver star.

My daughter and her husband share a passion for good knives. Here are their Christmas presents to each other.

The blue is her husbands and the bone is hers. Both Damascus and hand forged!

Here is my war ribbon scaled knives collection. Top, Afghanistan, next Iraq War, then Vietnam, Then the Revolutionary war...even if it looks like a WWII Army Airforce Insigna, then Operation Desert Storm or the Gulf war. The blades are all engraved. Seems kind of disrespective for all these knives to be made in China, (Rough Rider Brand) but I think they still look neat.
