Moonshiners - the TV reality show

While it is perhaps a rung or two higher on the ladder of interest above, say, Honey Boo Boo, I still feel this show is dangerous. I honestly felt my IQ start to drop about 5 minutes into it. Had to change the channel.

How in the world these TV execs decide on what to televise is well beyond my comprehension.

:I love that show. It's like a glimpse of what the US would be like as a 3rd world nation. Lol.

You ain't kidding. Only show I know which requires the use of subtitles so that us Americans can understand what is being said during an American produced show starring real Americans . . . .

My wife and I call it "brilliant absurdity" it is so utterly absurd to put such shows on television that it is brilliant. The tv execs know that people won't look away... like a train wreck.

Seems to me the creators, producers and TV networks could be considered as aiding and abetting an illegal activity.

Not to hijack the thread, but I watched Amish Mafia for the first time last night.
As for that show, I still don't know what to think about it. Perhaps I'll give it another shot.

And as for Moonshiners, think about it. The folks from Europe(Scotland?) started this tradition centuries ago.
    And their descendants carried on the tradition. Like it or not, It's really a part of American history. I happen to like the show;
    & I watch it often!

I like to watch Moonshiners myself. The subtitles aren't needed for me, a Southerner fluent
in many of the different Southern dialects. Charlie Daniels hosted a show called "You Don't
Know Dixie" which I would suggest to many of my friends as a good introduction to Southern
culture, language and traditions. Whiskey and Moonshine making were a segment of this
two hour show. There was a professional linguist on the show who explained how the various
Southern dialects came about and he corrected the notion that Southerners do not speak
proper English. The Southern form of English is actually more based on the Queen's English
than what people from other portions of the country call English according to him. "You
Don't Know Dixie" is a History Channel program so look for it in their listings.

As for Honey Boo Boo or whatever is the show is named, I will never watch it. This
is a disgraceful representation of Southerners and if my family and friends behaved
like this for their five minutes of fame and money, I'd disown them in a heartbeat and
tell them that either they should change their surname or I will.
