    Mediocre must be a northern word that means, supreme or outstanding, or wonderful. And no piece of paper can make you Texan. That require at least birth here and multi-generational Texas birth on both sides of your family is better.

    I barely qualify using that standard. My paternal grandfather was the first one born here on that side. It helps that my maternal great, great grandparents were living on the correct side of the Sabine River when the Republic of Texas boundary line with the US was redrawn about 1840.

    And in the interest of full disclosure, I had no idea who that bean pole was. But it's a great piece of history and I love history.
