Actually I zipped by this comment when you wrote it, but came across a quote of it later on.
I was fascinated and looked them up. I recommend the Wikipedia article on the Confederados to anyone.

I didn't know about Brazil, but I knew a lot of Confederates moved to Mexico.

As things are right now, if I heard of an ongoing riot in downtown El Paso, I wouldn't go to it. But if it came to me, I would fight to my last breath.

I used to be a CO and a police officer and have been up close and personal with a couple of prison riots - one as a guard and one as a cop. Both involved about 300 "residents" raising hell in the rec yard.

When I was a guard, our SRT (Special Response Team) was afraid to go in. I took a baton away from one the snivelling cowards and headed for the gate. I figured the LEOs surrounding the rec yard fence were all friends of mine and whatever happened, somebody would be shooting the scum off of me.

I was boiling hot mad and admittedly not thinking straight. Three other COs physically restrained me and I was nearly fired.

The second riot, I was one of the LEOs lined up outside the perimeter fence. That time, I was ice cold. I had the ringleader in the crosshairs of a six-power scope mounted on a Mauser Model 93 rebarrelled to 8x57.

I had dealt with the dope smuggling punk when I was a guard and did not like him even a little bit. I was racking my brain for some excuse to squeeze the trigger when my chief drove by on the perimeter road, saw me and shut me down. I was psychologically prepared to take that useless life, and with that rifle at that range I absolutely had the ability.

I can be sure I am equally ready to kill to defend my property or family. No brag, just fact. I also feel I am ready to die in the effort.
I agree with you butt. I simply took offense when you mentioned hiding my head in the dirt. I've been in some hairy situations and realize the importance of trying to fight a fight that you can win or the possibility that you may just swing away until you're taken out. I try to keep myself away from life threatening situations as much as possible. I have 2 young kids that depend on me to be around for a long time. Like I said, If someone's in trouble and I have the ability to help them, it's a definite possibility that I'll do something in defense of them. I won't go looking for trouble though. I get that neighbors can band together. That's a good thing. Protect yourself to the fullest. I have no qualms with stopping a threat, even if that results in the forfeiture of life by the person that posed that threat.

I apologize for giving offense. I don't mind it at all when I do it intentionally (like when I'm going after Libs) but this time it wasn't intentional.

Wow I just read it and thats amazing to say the least, atleast our flag is safe from ignorance and white liberal guilt somewhere, even if its not in our own (still occuppied) land.
"The fact is that the average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary, exactly like his love of sense, justice and truth. Liberty is not a thing for the great masses of men. It is the exclusive possession of a small and disreputable minority, like knowledge, courage and honor. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty – and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies." –- H.L. Mencken, Baltimore Evening Sun, Feb. 12, 1923
