Peope said the same thing about rock and roll in the 50s,"would you listen to that garbage its not music"I dont mind some of the older stuff but I cant tolerate the newer stuff very well,as to there not being any smart rappers Id have to disagree,Look at P-diddy or Jay-Z,multi millions and its not just from their album sales but their own music labels.I wonder how many people from the projects would be millionares had they not been raised in the projects.

I am married to a Hispanic - she would say Mexican - but I don't adopt her culture and don't expect her to adopt mine.Somethings we share, others we do not.

As for rap music, I have known many educated black people who would agree with me.

modify my description a bit. My two white Southerners would need to be college educated to some degree. Or possess some degree of natural intell8igence and wit - like my late father.

I wouldn't want to spend much time with Archie Bunker - or "Meathead" for that matter.

Re: How can rappers compare their guttural trash to real music?

Music tends to be a gap of generations in my opinion. Just as fans of the Big Band era hated when their kids began listening to early Rock & Roll. Elvis was considered almost pornographic in his day because of how he moved his hips and made the young girls swoon. When The Doors were touring, towns protested them appearing and officials were directed to arrest Jim Morrison if he appeared on stage.

Music is subjective, and no one is going to agree on it ever, otherwise we would all be sheep marching to the same genre. The world would be pretty boring I think if we were all listening to Bard Tales from jolly old England for the last 200+ years. Or just Christian hymns that were brought across the pond by early colonists.

I myself listen to rock, jazz, gospel, alternative, classical, techno/electronica, some pop, hip hop and rap. Very little music is bad to me, however country is not one of my favorites. I know there's some very talented artists in country, and it's not all about 'My wife is gone, she took my truck, she took my dog, his name was Buck....', it's just not my thing.

I personally can't stand new rap (anything within the 2000's) because there's very little originality anymore. Everyone these days say the same thing over and over, and the young and stupid think they're listening to some brand new message that is really just a bunch of recycled lyrics from about 5 different songs. I know when I play an old Jay-Z album from the early 90's, I randomly get people stopping to ask me when that 'new' album came out. I just laugh and say 'about 20 years ago' and watch them get confused.
"I am a better American today because of Barack Obama. Hear it loud, hear it clearly. I am a better American today because of Barack Obama. I know what my country has done, both good and bad. I have a deep appreciation of what this country is and what the American people are capable of. This is not a setback. This is a challenge and believe me, the American people are up to the challenge,...." -Glenn Beck

It is kind of funny but I had an uncle that used to complain about Rock and Roll when it first started up saying it would never replace the big band sounds of Dorsey etc. Well you now here it as elevator music instead of the really old classic band sounds.

Now with that said, I'm also a big fan of Celtic Women but also love country, good rock and even classical stuff. I also honestly don't under stand rap nor want too at any rate no accounting for taste.

Every generation complains about the music of the following generations.
