Looks like Sally is getting close........

Latest update seems to point it towards Pascagoula MS......that's 25 miles to the west. We are preparing for it. Hope it fizzles out.

My friend in Biloxi PM'd me today and said she is evacuating to Bama. When the Derecho went thru my town I almost evacuated in my living room.

All silliness aside, my prayers are for everyone in the paths of these storms.

My Daughter is in down town Biloxi. The house was built in 1928. Its up on a brick and concrete first story foundation. It had no issues with Katrina or Camille in '69 as most of Biloxi washed away. I'm just 1/4 mile inland from the water myself. The water stopped in my drive way in Katrina. 100 mph winds are not bad here. A few limbs and a odd weak tree. But 110-115 your getting downed trees and roof damage. You will also see most green things burned by salt spray or out right stripped or leaves. Early fall as it will be cooling off in a few weeks before it can green up again. Pecans will be blown off the tree and a loss for the year.

Update- 0:350 am a limb hits the house and wakes me. A quick inspection reveals no visible damage- but it is windy ( and the storm is still far away). The last track update puts the storm coming in around Bayou La Batre, about 10 miles south of me. However, the local weather man says they believe it will shift farther east over into Baldwin county around Gulf Shores. Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel is stationed over there a little farther north in Fairhope.

Looks like its getting wind shear from the southwest and its close enough to shore where the northeast side is getting knocked down by land. Its down too 85 mph winds and the eye is not well formed anymore. Bad news is, it has stalled. This thing looks like it is backing up towards the panhandle. I think it was hurricane Opel or Fredric that stopped just like this, moved back east to Apalachicola and then came back west at 120 and crossed the ms/al state line. Hurricanes do what they dam well please and no weatherman in his right mind will tell you different.
Now heres a good one for you. I took my dad to his sisters house to get away from the storm as we may lose power. She lives in Fairhope !

When it slowed it's forward movement I knew that it would get much more dangerous. You folks in the way, take good care and my prayers are with you.

“Historically, freedom is a rare and fragile thing . . . Freedom has cost the blood of millions in obscure places and in historic sites ranging from Gettysburg to the Gulag Archipelago . . .That something that cost so much in human lives should be surrendered piecemeal in exchange for visions and rhetoric seems grotesque. Freedom is not simply the right of intellectuals to circulate their merchandise. It is, above all, the right of ordinary people to find elbow room for themselves and a refuge from the rampaging presumptions of their ‘betters’.” Thomas Sowell

(9 am, Tue 9/15) The official track remains Bayou La Batre, but local weather folk are saying Mobile Bay. Also heard local folks talking about the possibility of the storm degrading a bit- that would be good.
Jim Cantore has moved from Fairhope west to Gulfport MS. Don't know why- maybe he wanted to hit the casinos?

It looks like it should be weakened a lot before it comes through my inland area but we will get some rain. People in the path are in my prayers for a safe ride !
"This is not a world in which one can turn the other cheek. Doing so does not avoid violence, but rather encourages it. The bad guys threaten, but they do not seem to want to get hurt. They should be taught that their presumed victim is more dangerous than they are. This is not a matter of weapons, but of will."
