Lot of gun shop break-ins in Lubbock

Two Weeks ago, four local gun shops were broken into and varying numbers of guns taken. One was a farm and ranch store, Gebos.

Yesterday, I took a friend to Gebos, hopeful to find him a G2c. As we approached the gun counter, it was easy to tell there was a problem. The handgun counter was completely empty. In normal times, the handgun counter would have about 150 total handguns, lately, probably about 90 hand guns. The tactical long gun case was also empty, and because of brisk sales of AR styled rifles, I doubt there were over 20 long guns, including High Point PC carbines, and .22 cal. AR styled carbines. Gebos had been hit twice in two weeks.

All of the back wall case, hunting rifles, lever action rifles and hunting shotguns were intact. My buddy asked why the thieves had not taken those? I answered that they didn't have a big enough truck!

I asked if they had come in from the roof, and the lady clerk replied, no, they came in another way, which after seeing how they had broken into Fred's Gun Emporium two weeks ago, they had broken in the concrete block wall in the back of the building. Come up a couple or three courses from the bottom, and the block is typically not filled with concrete, until you get up 9-10 feet and a bond beam will be poured to give the wall added strength. Give me a 4-5 lb sledge and I can put a nice sized hole into a concrete block wall (unfilled with concrete) in less than 10 minutes. That was the way they broke into Fred's Gun Emporium. They did however encounter rebar from the foundation and had a guy skinny enough to get through the opening. Entering the sales floor, he encountered a motion detector setting off the alarms and only got 6 firearms total.

Sharpshooters, they toppled a HVAV unit on the roof and came down through the duct work. I have no Idea how many guns were taken, but Sharpshooters is the largest gun shop between Dallas and Los Angeles.

I never heard how LSG gun shop was broken into, but they were. Their inventory was pretty low, so no telling what the losses were there, and I haven't been into the store since before the break-in.

My thoughts, these gun shop break-ins are more than the regular theft of firearms market, most getting into the Los Angeles or Chicago Express for back alley sales.

I am thinking the Far Left is arming up with these bigger scores.

Anyone else hearing of Gun Shops being hit in their towns and cities?

Nothing I've heard about here in Kansas, but there is quite a bit of criminal activity we never hear about in the local news.

If this were Los Angeles gang-types, how in the heck did they find Lubbock Texas? Is it relatives coming up from the south and passing through Lubbock on their way to the promised land?

This is a regular local gun theft ring. Normal times, they just go through neighborhoods, breaking into cars and trucks looking for guns left in the autos.

A local detective told me over a year ago that most guns stolen in Lubbock, usually surfaced in crimes in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Gun shops have been hit in Lubbock over the years, maybe one every three years, but four gun shops hit 5 times in two weeks, there is something more going on. Nothing in the local news on the most recent GEBO's break in, so other shops may have also been hit again.

I have not heard of any break ins in the Houston area. But that does not mean they are not happening.

    “NEWS
Lubbock Police, ATF investigating 4 gun store burglaries in 9 days

By Amber Stegall | June 8, 2020 at 2:16 PM CDT - Updated June 10 at 2:32 PM
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock Police and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are investigating a string of burglaries in Lubbock where guns were stolen from businesses. All of the burglaries have happened within a nine day period.

The ATF sent an email out to some residents saying a Federal firearms licensee in Lubbock County experienced a burglary that resulted in a theft of firearms. The email said “Please ensure the security of both your inventory and property and report all suspicious persons or activity to your local police department. Additionally, notify ATF at 888-930-9275 if you find any of your firearms missing, lost or stolen.”

The first burglary of a gun store happened on May 31, 2020 at LSG Tactical Arms located at 2650 34th Street. The police report says the burglary happened around 6 a.m. The owner saw a person from the video surveillance system inside the building. The suspects broke into the building and went through glass display cases. The police report says four suspects were seen leaving the business. It is unclear if any firearms were taken during this burglary.

The second burglary happened on June 3, 2020 just after 2:30 a.m. at Sharp Shooters, located at 5220 Marsha Sharp Fwy. Two suspects were involved in this burglary. The police report says one of the suspects “grabbed as many firearms as they could,” but dropped one as they were leaving. The officers noticed empty pistol racks were empty in the building. The second suspect helped in the burglary. The exact number of firearms taken during this burglary was not known at the time the initial report was submitted. On June 6, 2020, 17-year-old Tyrell Collins was arrested on a warrant for burglary of a building connected with this case. He is currently in the Lubbock County Detention Center and is being held on a $75,000 bond.

The third burglary happened on June 5, 2020 at Patriot Firearms located at 5840 49th Street. Police say they responded to an alarm down at the location around 5:30 a.m. Five suspects were seen on surveillance. Four of them entered the store and one stayed outside as a lookout. There is no information if any firearms were taken during this burglary.

The fourth burglary happened at Fred’s Gun Emporium at 3003 Slide Road on June 8, 2020 around 2:30 a.m. The police report says the suspect went into the building, smashed a display case and took several firearms. The number of firearms taken was not noted in the initial report.

While Meredith Davis with the ATF could not say the four burglaries were connected, she did say that there have been multiple burglaries of this sort across the state during a time “of unrest.”

The Lubbock Police Department is participating in a multi-agency response to these burglaries, and the investigations are ongoing.”

I had forgotten about Patriot Firearms, so that makes 5 different places. Surprised the story didn't mention Gebos.

I just got back from LSG gun shop. He didn't lose any guns, as he puts them all in the safe every night. He only had about 5 new hand guns in his cases, everything else being fairly vintage handguns, rifles and shotguns. He said that on purchasing guns or ammo, he is pretty much a rationed situation.

Going through about three big box store and six gun shops in the past week, the story is pretty much the same. Very few AR's, all lower end hand guns, Taurus and SCCY were just not in the stores, some Rugers, lot of Sigs, Berettas and Glocks.

The ammo cases were empty of handgun ammo, even 38 sp., .357 and .44 mag. I did find some 10mm at a place. Some 223 and 5.56 but not much. Only Mossberg Shockwave I saw was in .410

I've been through a lot of panic buying going on the past 25 years, but this is the strongest panic buying time I have been through.

Folks are prepping really heavy...you would think they were getting ready for a war or something!

Urban Utes broke into a Lexington gun store once several years ago. They were caught within a quarter mile of the shop. They had used their Hoopti car to pull the gates off the front door, but forgot to release it when they made their getaway. You would think a hundred pounds of steel chasing you down the road would be noticeable.

I would bet that was a tax and/or regulation dodge more than anything.

Even legal products get smuggled and sold to non nefarious buyers. Take cigarettes in high tax states like New York. It's big business to sell smuggled smokes. At the end of the day it is all about saving money.

As to a spike in gun store robberies I haven't noticed any here in the Fort Worth/Dallas area.
