Our First Real Storm----------We are Going To Die

    .
    So, we moved to Minnesota.
    A few months ago.
    Hmmmm.
Our son warned us about the storms here.
    He wasn't kidding.

Since about 3pm yesterday we have been witnessing the end of the world.
    Well, at least my world.
    Our first big storm.
Constant lightning and thunder since yesterday.
I've never seen it rain this hard.
Weather station said 4.8 inches of rain per hour during one short period.
I couldn't see the house behind us.
Local flooding and I believe someone just spotted locusts.
    And wind???......good grief Aunt Martha..............

Below is a screenshot of what is going on now.
That red and orange mess is headed our way..........again.
Its' brother was on top of us last night.
Each little red pixel is a lightning strike.
I am going to die.......I just know it.
    Send flowers.
    Or rum.
I mentioned the rum for a friend.

Incidentally, the screenshot is from lightningmaps.org.
Kind of a fun site to check out during a storm.

Sounds like a north Texas Storm!

Just wait for the mosquitos if they are not there yet, I hear they are the state bird!

About 10 years ago I was in northern Minnesota, had to get out of the rental car, and I kid you not the sky was black with them!
    jtg452, Rickenbacher39 and RobG2 like this.
"Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem" (I prefer dangerous freedom to peaceful slavery) Thomas Jefferson in a letter to James Madison

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin

"If everyone is thinking alike then someone isn't thinking!" General Patton

"If we waited for Washington to tell us when to plant, we should soon want bread." Thomas Jefferson

No mosquitoes yet although everyone here has warned us.
I also did not understand the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" saying.
There are ponds, small lakes and a few larger lakes everywhere.
We live 20 miles from our son's home.
There must be at least 20 or 30 of them we pass by in that distance.
Gee, I wonder where the mosquitoes come from?

Some places in Minnesota had 8" of rain. I used to have a running joke for Minnesota and Wisconsin about raising rice in the fields because summer storms were of the monsoon kind. Not joking that much as that is what we get more than not these days.

The Mississippi river thanks you for all the rain.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or shooting sports, it is about the citizens of this country having the means to protect themselves and the states from the tyranny, oppression, and misery of an over powering government. Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.

I forgot to mention the best part...........
We had one monstrous thunderclap directly over the house.
Biggest one I can remember hearing. I felt the house shake.
It actually caused the chimes in our grandfather clock to ring.
Scared the heck out of my wife.
    I chuckled a bit.
I am still getting "the look" 14 hours later.
I also had to make breakfast this morning...........

I went waterskiing with a friend in Minneapolis one hot summer afternoon.
At 3:00pm he said: "Time to pack up & head home".
I was surprise that we were leaving so early, but didn't say anything.
By the time we got the boat out of the water, loaded everything up, drove to his house, and washed down the boat, it was 5:00pm.
    Then the mosquitoes came out.
Oh My God! It was like a horror movie. They were everywhere!
Then I knew why the day ends so early in Minnesota.

One of the great all-time questions: Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? LOL
