Guy Who Reverse-Engineered TikTok Reveals The Scary Things He Learned

2 months ago, Reddit user bangorlol made a comment in a discussion about TikTok. Bangorlol claimed to have successfully reverse-engineered it and shared what he learned about the Chinese video-sharing social networking service. Basically, he strongly recommended that people never use the app again, warning about its intrusive user tracking and other issues. Considering that TikTok was the 4th most popular free iPhone app download in 2019, this is quite alarming.

China has been planting all manner of nefarious code in much of the software created over there, and much of the hardware as well. The most effective Trojan Horse is one that you can get your enemies to not only let in the front gate, but willingly buy by the millions. As a country that produces most of the products of the world, honestly it's a brilliant strategy. Don't need to hack through security measures, just make something that millions of people want, and that gives you the capability to spy on them with it.

Whether it's true or not in regards to TikTok is up for debate, but it would be in keeping with what they've been doing now in other areas and through companies based out of China.

China wants to become the #1 superpower in the world and the #1 producer of goods in the world (they already are, but they want even more of the market). They are also an authoritarian government that could very well be the greatest at spycraft currently and it's dramatically increased their military and companies on stolen secrets through all manner of ways. If you think this is something they wouldn't do, I'd have to ask you why? The world is already engaged in Cyberwarfare and spycraft with very little fallout or penalties if caught. At this point it's kind of like finding a micro recording device in your hotel room if you stay in another country known for that kind of thing, it comes with the territory and at most there's a tsk tsk given. Sure maybe you'll tack some sanctions on if it's particularly bad, but when doing a pro vs con analysis, it's still worth the gamble by a long shot.

Those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it. How much you want to bet that the users of Tik Tok either don't remember or never even heard of the nefarious code that China installed in the chips made for Cisco networks networking equipment that granted them not only network access but also could receive all packet traffic through those devices?

Keep in mind all of your 'smart' electronics are made in China and likely are sending back copious amounts of data and in many cases maybe even audio or video.

I saw this while reading the morning news, thought it was appropriate to this thread.

India's banning Tik Tok as well as many other China based spy apps.

That China is the #1 producer of goods is hogwash.

The rest of it is here.

China pretty much flatlines on growth from here on out. compared to previous decades. Europe is weary of their shenanigans as are most of the rest of the world.

You seem to be confused sir. I didn't state China was the wealthiest country or the one with the highest GDP. I stated that China was the #1 "producer" of goods in the world, and that is accurate.
