    Exclamation Harbor Freight jack stands

Harbor Freight has released an immediate safety recall for their 3 ton and 6 ton jack stands. They say that due to wear of the machinery used to manufacture the stands there are reports of complete failure of the stands with no warning. There is information on their website.

That's scary stuff. Not sure what brand mine are, but it's been years...maybe decades since I had the urge to get under a vehicle.

Still need to check in the event I loan or sell them.

“Historically, freedom is a rare and fragile thing . . . Freedom has cost the blood of millions in obscure places and in historic sites ranging from Gettysburg to the Gulag Archipelago . . .That something that cost so much in human lives should be surrendered piecemeal in exchange for visions and rhetoric seems grotesque. Freedom is not simply the right of intellectuals to circulate their merchandise. It is, above all, the right of ordinary people to find elbow room for themselves and a refuge from the rampaging presumptions of their ‘betters’.” Thomas Sowell

Thanks for posting. Just checked my HF stands and they are the ones recalled. Been using these jacks for over a year pretty scary to think what could have happened!

I was just getting ready to post this. I read about it on FB. I went out and checked my three sets, and I'm all good to get back under my truck when the new parts come in tomorrow.

I have been thinking about adding a ceiling mounted hoist from Harbor Freight to my garage. Not for use as an engine hoist or anything so mechanically challenging, but to hook to my belt and help me stand back up on my feet after laying on the floor under the truck for periods of time.

I have never trusted the cheap stamped steel stands.

Cheap tools are cheap tools. Sometimes you can get away with 'em, sometimes ya' can't. For small stuff, I use these Powerbuilt All-In-One stands now.

I came across these at TSC several years ago and picked up two on sale for just under $24 each (only had three in stock). I liked them so much, I added two more when they restocked at the regular price of $27.95 each. Looking online, I see they're up to $55 apiece now but they're well worth even that price. I use them a lot and all four are still going strong, they've paid for themselves at least 100 times over.

Problem now days is that it really doesn't matter what the price of the tool is or the name brand on the tool. They are all the same tool manufactured out of the same plant. I'm sure that there are other jack stands of various brands out there that should fall under the same recall.

Gone are the days of Craftsman Tools be a superior product. The Craftsman name is no more than a marketing ploy based on past history of Sears Customer Satisfaction Guarantee.

Yikes!! I was just under the Edge today doing an oil change!! I have Harbor Freight stands but they are not the part #'s listed. I suppose/hope/care/wish that they will be ok. I think I'll drop by HF tomorrow and try to get some info.
