Any TA members live in Oklahoma?

It looks very much like my oldest son and his family will move to Oklahoma (Edmond area, north of Oklahoma City) in the next six months. If they do, and since my wife and I are both retired, there's a chance that we would follow, down the road (we love our kids and grand kids, and New Mexico is turning liberal/conservative in a big way). Does anyone at TA live in OK, or have you lived there in the past?

Tulsa is a nice town; there are liberals there though.

...isn't OK just like Texas, 'cept they tilt their hats to the other side?

My wifes side of the family were all Okies, and we spent a lot of time there. In the early 90's, I was a construction project manager for Furr's Cafeterias, which had about 20 cafeterias scattered out over Ok, and I traveled to all of them.

I also traveled New Mexico, particularly Albuquerque, which had 7 units and I remodeled all of them. My perception in the 90's was that Oklahoma in general was more conservative, and Ok City, had less gang problems than Alb. I enjoyed traveling both cities.

Both states have bad highways as both states are not rich states. Much of Oklahoma is at lower altitude, so the summers are sweltering, as opposed to the crispness of the climate in Alb.

Eastern Oklahoma has a lot of beauty with rivers and lakes and forrests.

The Oklahoma City area is a good area to live in and has a good airport hub, lots of things to do. It is also one of the more targeted areas for tornados, particulary Moore, Oklahoma south of the City.

If I were choosing between Alb and OK City, I would prefer OK City, which Edmond is a suberb of.

Edmund is a bustling suburb of OK city. Pretty nice place to live. Bad weather is part of the game if you live in central and southern OK, well really most of Ok is a rough weather zone. I am more familiar with eastern Oklahoma as I live a few miles from the eastern border in Ark. Eastern Ok, is remote and rural in nature, lots of pretty land, lakes and small mountains. State is poor, and politics are nasty. Roads are so so, public education is not well funded, but the folks are nice as can be.

I wish I could remember the guy from the Sand Lake get-togethers, it will come to me sometime but he was from Oklahoma...I don't think he's been here for a while though.

Smoke and I have at least ten years on you. I do wonder about Elwood. Maybe Texheim can tell us. Elwood was a really nice young man and contributed a lot to this forum. He was also a prime candidate for health issues. Another old timer here I haven't seen in a while is Wino, but maybe he is using an alter ego....maybe Zen Ape????
