    Home sleep study

Having a sleep study today. Since I work night shift they’re doing it during the day, and at home. I’ll look like…… Well I will let you decide what I look like

It's different than the one(s) I took. Mine had a head band and a chest band but reported to a control box wirelessly. End result was an in-lab sleep study.

How do they expect you to sleep, with all that junk attached? Looks uncomfortable, and irritating.

I hate sleep studies- I spent much $$ a few years back on 4 or 5 studies and purchased 2 cpap machines. All a waste for me.....
Now I sleep like a baby......melatonin and Benadryl when needed.

Edited to add: Of course if you change up your lifestyle a little it can help....watch what you eat and when- no caffeine intake past lunch time. No late meals.
And if you work shift work- you really have to make off time work in your favor. Keeping your sleep the #1 priority always is the key.

My daughter does sleep studies. She's a respiratory therapist, but is trained and certified to do sleep studies. The respiratory therapist thing was a 2 year degree, but it didn't take her that long to do the sleep studies.

My wife just had three home sleep studies in the past two months. The machine was different than what you have (tube to nose, finger clamp, chest band) and it never worked. The first two times the doctor's office said it didn't register. The third time they said she had sleep apnea which is interesting, because she didn't sleep that night. I'd say it is clever marketing by the companies that make the machines. There really are no ramifications if the stuff don't work.

My issue was snoring and a metric butt-ton of apnea events. Started when I was a bit younger, had a septorhinoplasty done and quit snoring for almost 3 months, then it picked back up. This eventually caused enough stress on the ol' ticker that I had atrial flutter (resting heart rate of 210 bpm) which required an ablation to take care of. After that, I got the sleep study done, which discovered the apnea that one would expect from a morbidly obese 65 yo (I was 20 years younger than that at the time and no where near morbidly obese).

Got a CPAP and have no trouble sleeping at all now. Before the CPAP, I would wake up 20 times a night with dry mouth and a sore throat from peeling the ceiling tiles and constantly dead tired. Wife couldn't sleep in the same room with me either.

As to how one sleeps in all that stuff - spend a decade in an infantry unit. I can sleep in full MOPP gear (the OLD style!) .

sleep apnea is serious. My first wife eventually died from it. She'd knock the CPAP mask off every night in her sleep, couldn't keep it on.
