Took a nice ride south on my motorcycle, slayed a Dragon on the way.

Well, I didn't necessarily slay the Dragon, but I did ride it on my way from Kentucky to Sky Valley Georgia.

My goal was to stay off the interstates, ride the Tail of the Dragon, ride through Smoky Mountains National Park, see a buddy from the Air Force, and visit with my mom.

I accomplished all my goals in a 5 day round trip of 891 miles.

It was a blast. On the way down, I stopped an saw an old Air Force friend I had not seen in 20 years. I stayed at his house overnight and then continued down through Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. I saw a bunch of neat cars that were in the area for a car show. I continued riding around the perimeter of the park and came in to The Tail of the Dragon from the west.

    I survived the Dragon!

Had a great visit with my mom in Sky Valley and a great ride home back through Cherokee and up through the middle of the park.

I really enjoyed my first major ride!

Picture has been fixed, see above!

    I was riding my 2004 Honda VTX1300c.

I put fresh Pirelli MT66 Tires on it for the trip and they performed wonderfully.

It was a great ride and the bike handled it perfectly. The only issue I had was the stock seat got uncomfortable after about 200 miles. I am looking at a new Mustang Seat for it.

    Sounds like a great trip!

I'd love to take my Kawi through the Dragon, but it is a bit of a long ride for me.

I'm thinking of taking her on the Devils Backbone in the Texas hill country though, maybe a nice winter or spring ride.

Nice Bike(!), and a nice choice of tires.

The Dragon is always fun, I try to include it every time I am in that area.

When you get to the Black Hills you might try this:

If you are in Missouri try 125 running South, located east of Springfield Mo., and across the ArKansas State line, this will include a short ferry ride, to let your tires cool.

I would be remiss if I didn't warn you of the traffic jams in the Black Hills

Holy smokes! I would hate to run in to one of those.

The worse thing I had were the squirrels running out in to the road then doing their zig zag dance to make me unsure where to go to miss them.

I was disappointed that I did not see any bears or elk.
