    What a night

Was sitting up watching the late news and then the TV cable box flashed off/on then a few minutes later all the lights flashed and everything came back on with a PF. Computer was just about rebooted when 4-5 times in a quick succession the lights flashed again and then total darkness. There had been storms in the area but no warnings. Just before the lights went out I went to the door to look outside and it was absolutely pouring, intense lightning and the rain was literally falling sideways! Then the lights went out. Wind picked up harder and it got really loud outside.. It lasted about 5 minutes.

After i dug out the flash lights and got the wife out of bed we did a quick inspection. I found a puddle of water at the front door that was wider than the door and into the house about to were the door would extend if open. The screen window was open on the storm door and that was the direction the wind was coming from.

About a 1/2hr later we seen a village squad car come thru with the spot on so of course I had to go look.

Our neighbor across the street has a 40' Maple in the yard, half was on the ground. Some landed on his Bass boat. The neighbor next to me took a hit from a branch from across the street and the was a wire down on the ground.

Finally got brave and walk to the other street which is a larger neighborhood and the devastation was jaw dropping. Whole trees uprooted, and I mean like they were plucked out of the ground. Other large maples with 12" branches snapped like they were twigs. One house had hot power lines laying across the roof and also 3 power poles were snapped off. Another was a 40' Spruce that was snapped about 20' off the ground and it looked like someone took the top and stuck in upside-down straight up into the ground!

We finally had power restored about 3:30pm and the storm hit at 12:20am,

Two statements issued so far, one was that this was a micro-burst and the second was that the storm developed so quickly the weather service never had time to issue a warning. They are also claiming straight line winds in excess of 70mph.

Hopefully no one was hurt. Storms can be scary. No experience on the microburst thing, but did survive a tornado and a few hurricanes.

One injury was reported. A skylight blew out and fell on the Lady of the house. She was transported to the ER.

Also around here the power company has been installing these new very large high capacity power poles. All steel and massive. One of the guys my wife woks with sent her a picture of one of these new poles. It was bent in half! I guess at least the concrete footing held.

We didn't get a thing just 30 miles South. There was a cell came thought about 0200-0230 that got the dog's attention, but I don't think we got a drop of rain from it.

We all could use the rain, but not the damage from severe storm cells. Glad to hear that you guys fared better than the others.

It's coming up on 15 years since Hurricane Charlie ripped Central Florida a new one. Still remember being without power for a week. Then the same summer two more came through and we ended up being without power a total of 16 days. That gets old

Hope you and your are all fine.

This area took a direct hit from microbursts a few years back. Some damage to homes, but the number of trees snapped off was amazing.

Up north has had 23 tornadoes at last count. This seems to be the year for powerful storms.

We got wind and rain here and quite a light show from lightning, but little else.

We get some good micro bursts in the spring and fall from frontal systems.
Winds from our tropical storms keeps week and over loaded tree canopies to a minimum. It more roof damage than trees.
We just started our hurricane target zone. Aug -sept. It is when we get them. Hurricane Camille was fifty years ago next Saturday. I am getting old.
Everybody i know keeps at lest one window A/C unit, 5K generator, fuel cans. You fill your garbage cans and skiff boat with water so it doesn't blow away and you have water to flush toilets for a few days.
If i lose power for more than an hour i have options.

We are fine thank you! Much less damage than many. We were getting the Weather Service Alerts all night when they started in Fond Du Lac and kept moving south. The lightning was close and frequent but the weird thing was there was no sound! No Thunder!!! My neighbor next door and my brother 4 blocks down both slept thru it.

Hurricanes give plenty of warning. This storm popped so fast the National Weather Service didn't even have time to issue a warning and it was on us.
