She said that yes they did get an increase and the next week they cut everybody's hours. She was actually working 8 hours less a week and making less money than she was before. I guess the Democrats were surprized by this "Unintended Consequence". The Republicans were not.
Bernie Sanders did the same thing to his campaign staff. Not very "Socialist" there Bernie.

With the current day math skills of freshly minted HS graduates, self checkout can be a benefit. My biggest gripe is when I end up having to have an assistant unlock a locked up lane - and it happens ALOT!

I have put cash in these and not gotten my change. Took 15 minutes for them to figure out its not going to unlock/reboot and get my change from a key holder/manager. Ace hardware is looking good.

At the HD here, they used to intercept you most of the time if you were headed toward the self-checkouts and practically drag you over to a register. Lately, there are a half-dozen or so cashiers always just standin' around yakkin' and if you try to approach a checkout, they promptly (and usually in unison) direct you to the selfies.
Ammo will get you through times of no money, better than money will get you through times of no ammo.

To me, self checkout is a danged if you do / danged if you don't scenario. When I have to count out change for the cashier, and explain to them why I handed them $52 and change for a $47 dollar and change total so you can get a $5 bill back for change, they FINALLY figure it out. And that explains why I usually go to an older human cashier than a kid; they usually know how to do math in their head like I can without a pencil and paper or a calculator.

As for self checkout, if you use cash, like I do most of the time, the machine invariably fouls up. Somehow, the machine only understands paying by cards, and cash is a "foreign item" to it most of the time.

Like I said, danged if you do, danged if you don't.

As a shopper, I refuse to stock a store's shelves or check myself out. Any store that requires me to do either, will find me at their competitors. I've told this to HD cashiers that tried to help me use their self check out lane, once I handed them my shopping cart and exited empty handed.

That's a problem then because to get the veteran discount at Home Depot, you have to interact with an employee. At Lowe's it gets added to your profile so that you can even use it with an online order.

Local HD has four self checks. I think they are whats coming in all retail. Local Food Lion grocery store
is still all cashier. I avoid the place. They're slower than self check at the Lowe's Foods a half mile down
    the road.

Some Mickey D's have kiosks now. Order and pay. Then they have someone to hand you your food.

That $15/hr. minimum wage isn't going to happen especially with modern technology.

    All the Best,
