    Why we arm ourselves ?

I know everyone has a story, even multiple reasons WHY we arm ourselves but after reading the post by Taurus Fan about his relative having to kill an intruder ... well it's a quick reminder for sure !

After a period of 25 years the nice neighborhood my kids were raised in suddenly became overran by crack slinging thugs the last 2 years we lived there. Before we moved it got so bad that they would eyeball you in your own yard and if they noticed your car gone overnight, they robbed the place. There is no feeling like knowing someone has been inside your house going through your clothes dresser and everything you own and taking whatever they feel like taking.

The last few years we lived there I worked as a consultant for a hazardous waste contractor and had to travel quite often. Out of pure fear my wife would stay with friends until I returned and most of the time the house or the out-buildings got robbed.
I looked into guard dogs and decided on the Fila breed, fenced our 6 acres and put up warning signs.
    Did this deter them ?
Hell no ... one of them climbed the fence and the dogs chased him up a pecan tree. He went across a tree limb onto the tin roof and managed to pull up enough tin to get inside the building, but he was stuck there.
What the thug didn't know about and my big male Fila did was the doggy door on the far left side of the shop.
The thug stabbed my dog 9 times with a screwdriver but the dog was not deterred from his job and took most of the thugs right hand off, he spent several days in the hospital before going to jail. The dog was taken to a vet, got 5 stitches and was back home on the job 3 hours later.

2 weeks go by and I awake to the sound of glass breaking in my kitchen, I grab my revolver and meet another thug who was attempting to climb through the window but was partially stuck. I grabbed a handful of his dreadlocks and finished pulling him through and down to the floor while holding my 38 S&W underneath his chin.

It turned out to be a 140 pound 6' tall 13 year old kid who lived 3 doors down named De Shawndre. It was 3:40 A.M. so you have to ask yourself what kind of parents let their kid roam the streets like this. What if I had killed this kid, probably NEVER get over it !!!

I call the kids house, his dad answers and is only mad at the fact that I called him so late and that his kid had taken his newly acquired HOT pistol .... YES .. this kid was armed with a stolen 44 Charter Arms revolver and a mouth full of gold teeth
A year later this same kid robs and stabs a elderly man to death, he was tried and convicted as an adult in the State of Florida.

Anyway, we have still have friends who live in that area and it's only gotten worse so we don't regret moving in the least.

Oh yeah ..... I called the police but he was out of juvie 2 days later and back on the streets ... the judge told the boy and his dad to pay for the window repair but that never happened.

I live probably sixty seconds from a police station, but I suppose that'll only do me some good if a BG comes in my house during shift change...Funny how owning a pistol has made me more safety conscious..heck, I used to leave my doors unlocked! Well, I'm not tempting fate anymore

Re: Why we arm ourselves ?

Well, my decision to conceal carry came in January of this year when my 18-year-old granddaughter began associating with an 18-year-old slug of humanity, who is a drug user and traffics drugs to support his habit.

He and his brother joined up with a 400 lb. black drug dealer in Memphis, who is nicknamed "Twin"; and they became part of his gang.

Recently, the little thuggish boyfriend has threatened to start killing off members of our family.

Suffice it to say, I'll be up to the challenge if he's stupid enough to stick to his boastful words; and have warned him, face to face, that he'll have me to deal with if anyone in my family is harmed.

Also, car-jacking seems to be on the increase in the Memphis metropolitan area. GOD have mercy on anyone ignorant enough to attempt taking my car away from me.

Don't get me wrong, at 64, I'm not looking for trouble...but if trouble finds me, I'm going to defend myself and my family.

If you would have ended his worthless life then and there, the old man could have died peacefully in his bed.
“…democratic socialism, the great utopia of the last few generations, is not only unachievable but that to strive for it produces something utterly different – the very destruction of freedom itself.
