Still a 1st Lieutenant so I was still in A Btry, 8th Bn, 15th Arty in Cutler Ridge, Florida manning the BCC of a Hawk missile battery. In addition to pulling Tactical Control Officer duty every three or four days, (all junior officers were in the rotation), I was Battery XO getting ready to make Captain and ultimately spend a year at Camp Red Cloud Korea.

Not sure as I was born in May of 65. Probably digging holes and playing with Tonka trucks.

This time of year in 1969, I was a 17 yr old senior in high school. Had to wait until my 18th bday in October before I started looking at joining the military.

Air Force recruiter informed me that there was a waiting list to join as lots of guys were enlisting in the Air Force to avoid being drafted into the Army or the Corps. Marine recruiter started talking to me after I walked out of the Air Force recruiter's office and the next thing I knew a few weeks later, I was standing on the yellow footprints at MCRD San Diego.

That pic of me on the bike was taken about 30 miles east of Meridian MS.....in Butler AL. I had a cousin over there with you at that time- Johnny Camp....he actually married a girl from Meridian.

Wow- what a coincidence? We were that close.

I was wearing high top kids running the woods in South MS with my dog and BB gun. No critter was safe as i ruled my world.
That is until august 17 when hurricane camille came a shore and changed my world into a nuclear waste land with 239mph peek winds. Then i was an eight year old boy who was in awe of mother nature.

I was part of a two man Engineering Crew doing engineering field work on a natural gas pipeline just north of El Dorado, Texas.
Funny, A friend of mine owns a good sized ranch just five miles east of the main cmpressor station where that pipeline started, and I am headed there on Monday.
