    Mosquitos out in full force

The heavy rains and standing water has really brought out the skeeters - both the huge ones and the pesky no-see-ums. Two weeks ago I filled a large water tank for the calves, and when I checked it this morning it was teaming with mosquito larva. Made a run to the tackle shop and got a dozen gold fish, and they still haven't made a dent in the population. It's going to be a rough summer.

nere in NC I had to use the seat belt while mowing the pasture to keep the "skeeters" from dragging me off the tractor and having their way with me

They're gettin' heartier. I've seen them here when temps were only in the low '40s. In another hundred years, they'll prob'ly be throwin' snowballs at 'em.

I imagine we will see them also in heavy numbers shortly with all the rain we have had so far.

At least our rains have washed out a lot of stagnant pools of water. As we go out of the rainy season...they will be really heavy.

No See'em gnats are what are hitting us right now, but they still give way to the "Big Boy" skeeters. Those gnats come right through screens like they aren't there. Then there are the ticks just now emerging. You can't walk under tree without a dozen or so jumping out at you. Looks like I may be adding sulfur to my diet for the summer just to keep them at bay.

Battle of Wanat: 10 years ago last 13 July, 1LT Brostram was killed in combat killing the last enemy combatant in the outpost. The LT went to the point of decision and made the difference that turned the tide of the battle. The original investigation found the Bde Cmdr, the Bn Cmdr and the Co Cmdr at fault for dereliction of duty. Last year I thought we were having a EAA Warbirds Fly-by and it was skeeters instead. They were abuzz about it. I figured the USAF F-16 fighters we have near Madison were going to have to use missiles and guns to take the skeeters out.

I don't know if you could put it in water but Windex will kill a skeeter the instance it hits one same thing with flies I use it and it works

    The Spartan Mosquito Eradicator

now i used these last year and could not believe how well they worked. It was night and day! But when i got them this year they did not have a pack (bagged pouch) of ingredients /powdered yeast, sugar, salt... but lose in tube. They don't seem to be working as well. I called them and the girl said the yeast stays fresh in the packs and not so much lose in the tube. I'm not buying unless in the air tight packs. Just unscrew and look inside. If it's lose crystals the yeast may be bad, if its in a pack buy it.
I could not go in my yard without a shirt or two seconds without being eaten alive. I put these up and twelve days later i worked my flower beds for an hour before dark and then grilled some meat. I got bit twice! They worked for me. If the yeast is lively. Not so much if it doesn't give off the gas bait.
