    As Memorial Day Approaches...

...would it be appropriate to honor a personal acquaintance who paid the ultimate price for our country?

I would certainly hope so, and so I shall-

Robert Kendrick Chase was a high school buddy who graduated one year ahead of me. We worked together on a job between college semesters in the summer of 1964. He drove me crazy that summer singing folk songs that he and a group he had formed sang back in school.

Despite his Mom's entreaties, Bobby followed his father and two older brothers in service to our country. Bobby was killed by enemy action on December 23, 1968 in Long An Province, Viet Nam. What a wonderful Christmas card that must have been.

His honors and decorations included, among others, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the Viet Nam Valor Cross, Unit Award.

Thanks for your service...... (Doesn't seem enough......)

    Lance Cpl. Peter J. Clore

Peter is the son of a friend and coworker. Peter was also a coworker before joining the Marine Corp.

When I had first heard Peter was killed, the first image in my mind was when he was a little boy. He was a good kid and later a good Marine. He was killed a couple of days before Memorial day in 2011 in Afghanistan. He's a credit to his Mom and Dad. They brought all their children up to be upstanding adults. I still feel bad for their loss, and they miss him everyday.
