    Shot another Cottonmoutth

And, I had my snake boots on this time. He didn't strike, though. It's the kinda day that brings out the snakes. Cool and sunny and spring after a few days of rain. He was near the feeder sunning when I rode up on the Arctic Cat to fill the feeder and check the game camera. The camera caught a pic of this serpent yesterday evening I thought I'd share. There's a pig setting up a routine, too, just after dark Need to go set up the motion detector in a bit and get the hog rifle ready for an ambush.

I rode up on this thing and saw him just by my right foot peg. Shot him with .22 mag rat shot from my Heritage RR twice in the head, second for good measure as he was still wiggling. After I raised my feeder back up, his tail twitched a few times. Since my dog was eyeing him, made me a bit nervous, shot his head off with a .38 158 grain JHP. THAT finished the battle beyond any doubt. I tossed him across the fence. I hate those danged things.

    Yet ANOTHER disappointing thread title.

While the subject matter is interesting and I'm glad you won the battle, I was expecting a story about a you shooting a drunk who had invaded your home. (I assume drunks still get cottonmouth).

I always kill a poisonous snake when I can.
Other snakes I leave along, most all the non-poisonous snakes around here eat RATS.....so they are GOOD snakes.

Well, they do eat chicken eggs, but we don't keep chickens anymore. EVERYTHING eats either chicken eggs or chickens.

I'm sure most of you are aware of the old wives' tale that a beheaded snake's head will remain alive and able to strike until after sundown. That is not an old wives' tale, at least not with both black and yellow faced timber rattlers and the pygmy rattlers here. Never leave an assumed dead viper where a pet or child might encounter it. Dogs also may want to dig 'em up, if they're curious and see where you bury them. I'm with NT......vaporize 'em an' be done with it. ...not at all fond of snakes here.
