It still comes down most of the time to a kids raising, and no, I wasn't a good example, but the kids' mother was, and she did a great job.

I am more disappointed about the way the TTU students reacted last night after the win in the Final Four against Mich. State. Broadway in Lubbock looked more like downtown Philly after a Superbowl win. I wish those kids were better than that.
Well, dang, I don't know HOW my daughter turned out so successful in life. But, she got nothing on a silver platter other than her four year college education. She got out....with a degree in English, and took a job here and there. Her mamma passed away and she had no one to coddle her because I wouldn't do it. Suddenly she grew up, got some education loans because my funds had dried up, went to Victoria college for a useful education and, now, she's making over 40 bucks an hour as a certified respiratory therapist with a certification in sleep disorders. Funny, too, she just couldn't do math until she HAD to, sink or swim. All of a sudden, she figured it out.

In other words, she grew up.

When my youngest daughter was in the primary grades she had trouble learning to use a traditional clock to tell time. We put tape over all the digital clocks in the house. lol She learned.

I've been a late bloomer in many things in life and got to 2nd grade without being able to read the clock, and there were no digital ones in that era. I probably never felt the need. It transpired that the pastor of the church where our parochial school was located visited the classroom one day. He asked one kid if he could read the clock...and I almost DIED. I was terrified that I could be next.

I learned to accomplish that task soon afterwards...

Well, they didn't have clocks when I was a kid. I learned to read a sun dial.

My jaw dropped . I shut it to keep myself from saying something that would get me fired.

    Big 10-4, there brother.

My solution was to ask ‘them’ a question. What does it say in the book? Did you goggle it? What do ‘you’ think the answer might be? It won’t take them long to figure out you are not ‘alexia’. In otherwords, waste “their” time for a change.

There's really a complex dynamic as to why they're more miserable. They system started them down the socialist path in public education. It reinforced the idealism that everything would be provided for them. That kills incentive. Parents tried to coddle them and screamed that they weren't being treated fairly when they lost. This reinforced the "everybody will be provided for" mentality. Now they look at all the vitriol and hatred splashed all over social media and television. Not too many rays of sunshine there. They are starting to wake up to the fact they were nothing but pawns in a scheme and the future is bleak. They have no marketable skills so they're relegated to jobs where you ask if they'd like to try a new menu item. They really don't have much to look forward to that even remotely compares to the Promises of BS they've been fed their entire lives. Then they look at us, the older generation and we HAVE things. We have them because we worked our butts off for them. They cannot make that connection as it goes against everything they've been taught. I'm kinda split between wanting them to suffer to know how it feels and possibly motivate them vs feeling sorry for the foolish bags of mostly water thinking they've been dealt a really crappy hand in life. I guess we'll just wait and see who sinks, who swims and who waterskis.

    Young Americans are more miserable.
    I don't care.
Pry your face away from that idiot iPhone.
    Get off the computer.
Drop out of the last class you have working your way to a degree in Eastern Religions and it's affect on traditional basket weaving.
Get out of your parents basement.
Stop asking for freebees and keep your hands out of my wallet.
Get a job and earn your keep.
Until you do that I don't care.

Give a kid a car, he doesn't appreciate it. Make your kid buy a car. You never have to worry about him doing anything stupid. Just saying.
