    Buried our cat

Lost our cat Lucky today. It was not unexpected. Kitty was 20 years old. He died in his sleep. At peace.
Came home from work to hear the news, dug the grave and buried his body.

Lucky was a rescued cat. Twenty years ago our Lab found him under a bush in front of the house. Later that day, he was still there and so Otter winkled him out and found he was badly hurt. She took him to the vet. When I came home from work, I rushed into my office to catch up on a couple of things that had come up on the trip. Otter came in and told me that instead of being run over, as we had thought, Lucky had been shot. The vet would work on him, but only if we promised to adopt him. Then Otter says, "It's up to you."
Yeah, right. Cublet 5 is standing next to her, tears quietly running down his face … and I'm supposed to be the bad guy???
I don't think so! So we wound up keeping the dang cat!
Turned out he had been shot 3 times. One of his front legs had been taken off at the shoulder. The left side of his jaw was shot away. The last bullet passed through both lungs.
The vets worked miracles. A six person surgical team worked 10 hours on that cat. And they only charged for materials. Still, that alley cat cost more than our pure bred hunting dogs. Turned out to be our family Christmas present. And certainly a big part of our family.

    Good bye, Lucky.

I'm thinking Lucky made it to 20 years in an attempt to give you back everything you gave him. Without you, he surely would have died. In cat years, he would have been 96. that's an incredibly long life.

We had a cat for 17 years, a calico, beautiful cat, Queso was its name, we lived in a wooded area and I put one of these small animal flap doors in the back door so it could come and go on its own, it was an indoor outdoor cat, greatest hunting animal I've ever seen used to hunt & catch rabbits, rodents, chipmunks, used to bring em to my wife as a gift ...really miss her a friendly animal ...we had to put her down her health detoriated quickly ....RIP Queso ...

Very sorry to hear this sad story about Lucky. You and your family have been forever changed as a result of the love given to you by Lucky. And you sir, provided Lucky with a full life that was in the beginning, slipping away.

Lucky sure was to find you guys. Thanks for giving him a great life! I told our cats to say a prayer and they said....hrumpph.

That is still a testament to your generous nature (despite your on-line persona), that exceeds what most would have done. Lucky truly was blessed. I hope he can meet up with my Lil Miss Molly and chase laser pointers together.
