I've quit watching "Pawn Stars" They are just a bunch of thieves

They moan and groan about not being able to pay more for an item and then brag about the profit margins.

Those bastards need to buy condoms by the truck load because they are screwing everybody they deal with.

It's pretty typical of a pawn shop really ... if you want my opinion, I think they are a little greedy, btu they openly say, they are there to turn a profitt. The more the merrier for them.

You have noticed it too they screw many people by at least 50% and they make you feel bad. That Rick guy needs to get jack slapped with some of his comments.

dont watch the show but ya pawn shops give dirt prices.. i mean dirt..

my sister needed money so she tried to pawn 2 gold rings she had.. worth about 250-300 each.. the best she could get was 32 dollars for both.

pawn shops will buy outright, most people pawn instead with the hops of coming back later to get it.. usually because of continuing money troubles that does'nt happen and they loose the stuff.

yes pawn brokers get stuff dirt freaking cheap.. then gain all dealers do.. take anything a dealer will buy or sell and they'll give you maybe half of what they'll sell it for.

pawn brokers just deal with almost anything is the main difference... well and they give you maybe 20%
If you can't shoot well, shoot often.

They cover their Butt's, some of the junk they buy might take a while to move, and while they are supposed to be experts in what they buy, the economy changes and they could get stuck with some of Napoleon's navel lint for some time. It is simply a risk/reward game they play, and most of the folks selling things to them are aware of the maximum they can probably expect to sell for.
Anyone selling to a pawn shop is looking for fast money, the pawn shop may wind up eventually taking a loss on some of the stuff they buy. In the Late 70's, I bought and sold some houses, and I covered my Butt, but still lost occasionally on a deal, and hit homeruns on others. Still, I expected to make a living. let the economy turn south on you with an inventory and you are screwed. The guys on pawn stars don't twist anyone's arms. The folks who go into Pawn shops to sell something could take the time and advertise and market the stuff themselves if they had the time or inclination. Nope, I don't sell things to Pawn shops or do business with them, but I respect their ability to do business, and they are usually good at it.

Those guys are sleazebags, would you ever act like that with a camera on you?
The bald one is such a douche, he says the same shit to every person who wants to sell something, and then cackles his smoker cough until they either walk away from disgust, or sell their stuff for cheap just to get out of his company quick. What a creep. Why ask someone what they want for something if you know you are gonna be an ass either way.

They are no different than any other Pawn Shop they are going to buy at wholesale prices, which on some items is not uncommon to be 50% of retail. And like others have said they can't count on a quick sale of the item, the longer they expect an item to stay the lower % they will offer to cover overhead, storage, etc.

No I don't have a pawn shop or deal with them, but do understand what having static inventory on your shelf can do to a retail business.

Geez, tough crowd. Last I saw no one was holding a gun to the heads of the people wanting to unload their crap. Pawn shops cater to people who want to make a fast buck on something they own. If folks want top dollar for their stuff they need to plan ahead, put it in a public auction, or advertise it for sale, or put it on Ebay. Anybody that thinks their are going to get full value for their stuff in a pawn shop is a dreamer. I thought the prices they pay out were fair and in some cases more than fair, for a pawned item.

Re: I've quit watching "Pawn Stars" They are just a bunch of thieves

You ask what people want to determine the seriousness of them wanting to sell.
Anytime I list a property to sell, I do want to know the motivation the people have. If they have no strong motivation, I probably don't have a very realistic seller, and may not want to invest the amount of money into marketing I would have to spend. On the other hand, I have watched him negotiate a reasonable deal, maybe give more than I would give. Again, no one twists anyone's arm in making the deal. I'm sure that a pawn shop owner knows that most folks need money when they come into his shop and realizes they either have tried to sell the item for some time with no success or had an unexpected expense come up they need money for. If you place yourself in that position, it isn't the owner's fault, and you can always go down the street to another shop or take your merchadise home and keep it.
It's kind of like me being mad at a gun shop about the prices they have, they have a right to put prices wherever they want to. I shouldn't frequent them and get mad everytime I go into the shop. It's myself I should be mad at for going into the shop again and again.

Re: I've quit watching "Pawn Stars" They are just a bunch of thieves

When I lived in Pecos, I had a friend who owned the local pawn shop.

I used to hang around his shop since he was involved in local politics and that shop was an excellent source of stories.

I witnessed a lof deals and never once thought he scewed somebody over.
