Best Bourbon just above the bottom shelf?

I want buy a bottle of Bourbon for a get together with some friends. I am looking for something that is inexpensive, but not bottom shelf. The last time I bought Bourbon for this get together, it was McAfee's Benchmark Old #8, 80 proof. (Buffalo Trace, I think...)

The others seemed to like it, but then again most of them are either beer drinkers or bottom shelf liquor drinkers. (Yeah, I have a "classy" group of friends...)

What do the other Bourbon drinkers here like that is NOT top shelf and just above the bottom shelf? I don't want to spend a lot, but I don't want to bring rot-gut to a gathering of friends.

The bourbon which is often found near the bottom shelf but deserves to be just under the top shelf, (In my humble, but quite experienced opinion), is Evan Williams. For what it's worth...

Thanks for the replies so far, but I think your idea of "just above the bottom shelf" and mine are quite different! Most of the suggestions are way above what I want to spend and for this get together, definitely better than they will ever notice!

Yep- They're just showing off. My suggestion, however, is more than valid. Check it out...

I like Wild Turkey 101, some find this a bit stout/strong to the senses. You could go with Wild Turkey 80 for a little easier taste. For not much more you could step up to Crown Royal, it is very often on sale this time of year or in gift sets harbouring freebies of some sort.
I have often heard that "Change is Good". If this is a fact, why does history tend to repeat itself so often. I'm guessing that it is so we can learn from our mistakes that change is good?

Heck, have some fun - get a decent bottle, but also get a bottle of the worse stuff they have - degreaser-capable stuff. Mention that it's too costly for normal events, and I'm sure someone will be praising it.

I like WT 101 as well and I find it to be smoother than the 80p offering. Still, it is about twice what I want to pay for this gathering. Although, I have thought of buying some cheap stuff and putting it in a WT 101 bottle! (evil grin) Seriously, I don't think anyone in this gathering would know the difference.
