There is Nicole over to the west that is going to cause steering currents as well. So Tuesday or wednesday of next week...bohica, although much weaker.

One person on the local news here is calling the two storms to come together and form the Perfect Storm, and of course people are getting all worked up over it now.

Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.

Every forecast I have seen so far indicates it will crawl up the eastern coastline.
Does anyone here know why they think it may circle around and head over Florida into the gulf?
I don't understand what would make a storm behave that way.
It'll go wherever the steering currents take it. Many storms have looped. Dora in '64 looped east of Jacksonville then came ashore in JAX. It didn't turn north until it got to the Panhandle.

One thing I have noticed this year as compared to 12? years ago? Forecasters do not seem to be willing to get very definite. They all seem to use very vague language. I know it is not an exact science...but it just seems strange.

It really can be very complex, much more so that I can explain.

As a couple of folks have mentioned there are factors that can steer the hurricane. One of the most common, of these steering effects, comes from the Bermuda High. Tha factors that can influence a hurricane are really limitless!

Take a look at post #88 in this thread where I show the paths of Hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne in 2004!

Yep, you probably don't want to wait it out in Orlando, it would be safer to face the Hurricane.

I am waiting for, God forbid, reports of millions of dollars in damage and the insurance companies will be singing the blues that they have to make payouts for repairs. This after they have skated for a decade collecting premiums with no major storm.

There was one black chick on the weather channel that made the comment about how poor Haiti is and how they can't afford oil for heat and cooking and use wood for everything. Which lead to deforestation and mud slides that kill people. The next day she did this whole apology schpeel and how sorry she was if it offended anyone.

We have what is known as the "Bermuda High" pressure that is usually located over the Atlantic. Usually this high will block storms, but in this case and the direction the storm is coming, the low that was expected to deepen was much weaker than they expected, this allowed the "Bermuda High" to strengthen and move further west blocking the storm from going north. Steering currents will be weak, but will most likely move south and back to the west because it is cut off from any front that would steer it out to sea. As other's have said it is complicated. Lots of things can steer the storm which at times confuse the models and they may not be sure what the storm is actually going to do until more data is available. This is why we have hurrican hunter aircraft in the storm close to 24 hours a day. They collect lots of data that helps the models run along with satellite observations and the old fashioned weather balloons.
