Sounds like he should have at least fired his gun a few times before this ever happened. He very well may have been on target.

Lesson: If you have a gun for protection, get some practice in with it.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or shooting sports, it is about the citizens of this country having the means to protect themselves and the states from the tyranny, oppression, and misery of an over powering government. Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.

A West Tennessee liquor store owner took the law into his own hands, firing at two men he said tried to rob him.
How is defending yourself, taking the law into your own hands?

That statement is one of the most misguided statements that can be made about self-defense.

Now, if the storeowner would have jumped in his car and started chasing the suspect down the street shooting at him, perhaps they would have a point, but just defending oneself is not "taking the law in to your own hands."

That’s when Adams said he reached for the pistol hidden under the register. He fired one shot, narrowly missing the suspect.

“I’m 61, and this is the first time that I’ve ever shot a gun,” Adams said. “No wonder I shot the wall, but I really meant to hit him.”

Adams then chased the men out of the store, firing one more shot and once again missing.
    Two things:
    1) If the guy is telling you he's robbing you, appears to have a gun, and is in the process of robbing you: don't just sit there waiting until he punches you to FINALLY decide to fight back.
    2) If you have a gun, practice how to use it.

Thanks Elwood, I don't have to bother pasting what I copied from the article.
