PTSD is real. PTSD is a problem, and the lack of treatment often leads to bigger problems, and even then, some unfortunately do not recover. Great strides are being made in recognizing the symptoms and getting the treatment to those in need, but it is not enough. Sorry for your loss, RScottie. This is heartbreaking.

    I agree.

I had not seen MSgt. Kelly since I was stationed with him at Wright Patterson AFB.

But I had heard how his career had progressed and how he was doing via Facebook.

I remember him as always being cheerful and a hard worker in the lab. He was nice to others and easy to get along with.

Many times you hear of people that have PTSD and commit suicide but it is not someone you knew, someone that you would have never thought this would happen to.

It saddens me that PTSD amongst our Veterans is so pervasive.

"This is not a world in which one can turn the other cheek. Doing so does not avoid violence, but rather encourages it. The bad guys threaten, but they do not seem to want to get hurt. They should be taught that their presumed victim is more dangerous than they are. This is not a matter of weapons, but of will."

    Sorry for your loss.

I too experienced an extremely long wait for my VA disability. I did finally receive it along with back pay. It's a very slow process and no one informs you of anything along the way. PTSD is real, I have friends that suffer from it. Best thing to do is keep them close and always communicate with them as much as possible.
