I am still a baseball fan but today's game is much harder to watch than it used to
be. There are too many delays in the action these days and the commercial breaks
between innings are too long. MLB needs to find ways to keep the action going,
perhaps allowing hitters only one chance to step out of the batter's box during an
at bat and limiting the visits to the pitching mound for managers and players. I
watched some of the World Series this year with no rooting interest and even though
it was competitive and close, I just couldn't get into it like I used to when I was
younger. The commercial breaks between innings and interruptions in play are
also much longer than they used to be. My dad was a semipro and college pitcher
and he still loves to watch baseball, especially a good old fashioned pitcher's duel.

Our high school cut a deal with the local community college to share their field in exchange for a new turf field. Win win. Nicest field around here. I watch college basketball & football, pro football, and that's about it.

Look for a pro league outside MLB. We did and that's pretty much all we go to today.

The local team, the Fort Worth Cats are great. The Stadium is built on the site of the original and its built much more like the old school stadiums from the 1920's-1950's. Not bad seats, always close to the game, food and beer is well priced. No commercial breaks...

They have a hall of fame list of people who played there outside the stadium, players like Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Ted Williams to name a few.

I still enjoy the game with all of the changes including video review of plays. When I was young the only post season play was the WS or a one game play off game in case of a tie at the end of the regular season and all of the WS games were played during the daytime. I would get home from school just in time to watch the end of the games and was determined to have a career that allowed me the time to watch the WS during the day but that all changed when they started playing night games bore I started working. It is interesting that you mentioned all NY Yankee great players and now Jeter can be included with them.

I'm hoping that we can get together and catch some kind of game one day, either in SA or FtW!

I'm looking forward to shooting your cattleman and your PT1911, too.

A Leejack original: Socialism is the layover on the flight from freedom to communism. Democratic socialism (think Bernie & Ocasio-Cortez) is disguising that pig with lipstick to sell the tickets. I hope all those who subscribe to this democratic socialism reap the bennies that they sowed, just leave me and mine alone!.......

I thought Obama banned all sports because cleats make holes in dirt.
I have not seen a "ball" game in 25 years and if I never see one again I will be a happy man.

I can distinctly remember when I began my dislike of MLB. The 4H club I was in had gotten tickets to see a Brewers game. Between the tickets and the bus rental it came out to $48/seat. That was a good chunk of change to a kid in the 80's, and part of the stipulation was that we, the kids, had to earn/save the money up ourselves, our parents couldn't just pay for our way (my foks wouldn't have had the money for such a frivolous thing to begin with). I saved a couple months' allowances, milked a lot of cows, and mucked out a lot of pens to earn my price of admittance.

Little did we know that while we were on our way to Milwaukee the strike was called. We get there and get turned away at the door being told basically "Sorry folks, they went on strike. No, you can't have rain tickets, you'll just have to buy new tickets when the strike ends."

That was the end for me, I think I've watched 2 games on TV (because that's what was on at the bar) and I haven't stepped foot in a stadium since.

I do still have most of my baseball cards though, in mint condition, I'm hoping I'll be able to put my kids through college with 'em
