    How's this for a map?

It's Texas Monthly's map of the best BBQ joints in Texas and there's two here for Lubbock - Tom and Bingos and Whistlin' Dixie.

Whistling Dixie went bankrupt about two years ago, never impressed me. Tom and Bingos is hit and miss, just a little 700 sq. ft. joint with old timey school chair half desks, seats maybe 24. Lubbock has had some BBQ places in the past that were really good, none currently that deserve even a one star rating.

Can't beat Carolina pig IMHO... But as a ranking fat guy, I like it all to some extent with the possible exception of that mustard based stuff. Not a fan...

The best BBQ I ever tasted came from places that looked like they had been abandoned. One near Livingston, Texas, was across the highway from a sawmill. It had a dirt floor covered with sawdust and amazing BBQ.

One in Fort Davis, Texas, was made from adobe. It was a tiny place and was full of customers all the time.

The region that you can see the smoke bellowing off my back porch has the best BBQ IMO. But hey, that's just me. Others might have a different opinion.

The original Shorty's in South Miami is pretty good. I like them all.

The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or shooting sports, it is about the citizens of this country having the means to protect themselves and the states from the tyranny, oppression, and misery of an over powering government. Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.

From what I've read the contest for best BBQ sems to be a toss-up between Texas and Carolina.

Question - is that North Carolina or South Carolin, or both?

When it comes to beef barbeque, Texas style over mesquite or pecan is the best tasting to me.
As far as pork, I like Eastern Carolina style barbeque the best with a good vinegar and molasses
based sauce cooked over hickory or oak. I've tried several different styles and these are the best
tasting to me. To answer BUTT's question, there are two different styles of Carolina style BBQ.
They are Eastern and Western and the difference is in the sauce used to baste the pork. Eastern
style cooks use a vinegar based sauce while Western style cooks use a tomato and mustard based
sauce. To me at least, the Eastern style sauce is hotter (plenty of red pepper) and sweeter. The
Western style sauces are tangier and saltier than the Eastern style sauces.

Sorry y'all, although I'm in South Carolina, pork just ain't BBQ.
Lived in Texas for 8 years, BBQ is BEEF!!!!

Would not touch those "sissy ribs" of pork.
Could get you in a whole heap o' trouble in Texas if you're caught doing pork ribs!
