My old lawn tractor bit the dust

The tranny on the used lawn tractor I bought last year pooted out on me. 350 bucks, got my money's worth I reckon. Deck is pretty rusty, too. Thing is an old craftsman, probably 25 years old. Anyway, I found this lawn tractor at tractor supply. It'd been sitting up for a year and a half, one steering arm was froze up, the carb was gummed up. The guy said the fuel pump was bad, but it wasn't. I replaced the filter, but it flowed just fine. The shut off on the float bowl was gummed solid, though, so I clipped it and put an inline fuel shut off on it.

Anyway, warranty doesn't cover what WAS wrong, but otherwise, I have full warranty on it which is a good thing with Kohler motors. But, it runs great, very smooth. 22HP 46" cut, hydrostatic drive via foot pedals. Nice ride, better than anything my cheap self has yet owned. I bot it for $1000 as is. Took me about 4 hours to get it going this morning. Had to drive the steering arm out with a brass mallet, but got it cleaned up and greased.

One thing I don't like, the lights don't shut off and are a drain on the battery. I unplugged on post on each light. Won't be a problem in the future. The battery was dead in it and the one out of my old tractor is old, but still charges and holds a charge. Might be a little weak, though.

It ain't the Husqvarna garden tractor I wanted (3500 bucks), but I really don't need a garden tractor. I'm going to buy a nice rear tine tiller soon, 600 bucks at Tractor Supply. That's all I really need for a big garden and planting a food plot back in the back. I planted a small garden this spring with my little Mantis tiller.

When I got it going, I mowed the back yard......nice.

I am sorry to hear about the law tracker giving up the ghost, but you got a nice new ride. I am still 14 year old push mower. B&S engines are hard to kill.

i got it used a year ago, but judging by the squarish styling, late 80s likely, maybe early 90s. It's a 42" cut powdered by a Kohler 14.5, IIRC. It's a single cylinder OHV motor, runs REAL smooth. Also got an old parts tractor which WAS running, the neighbor left it and new neighbor didn't want it. It has one of those Briggs boxer twins (opposed cylinders like a R model BMW motorcycle) which are good motors. It'd need cleaning up, but you're welcome to it or the Kohler if you can use it. I might be able to rig the hydrostatic tranny out of that old neighbor's tractor to my Craftsman, take the blade deck off, and just use it to run out back with the utility trailer. But, I wanted a new mower for the acre I have to mow, here. I mowed the front half with a push more the other day when the tranny bit the dust. DANG, I ain't doin' that again and, heck, it wasn't that hot. Wait 'til August!

Very nice lawn tractor indeed! I had to buy one two years ago and went with a John Deer this time vice Craftsmen.

    Very nice.
I'd like to have a new one but as long as mine keeps going I'll keep it.
Besides my kids love to mow so I rarely have to bounce around on it anyway
