    Sharknado!!

I saw that the "world premiere" was on last night and said, "nah, who watches that garbage?"
Then I ran across this article with screen grabs and now I'm like "dang it, I missed the awesomeness!"

LoL I thought about watching it last night when it was on. One of my guilty pleasures are those cheesy B movies the SciFi channel gets. Most of 'em are knockoffs of big hit movies (Battle of Las Angeles instead of Battle: LA) but occasionally they'll play an original. Cheesy yes, but, some of 'em are really good movies with an actually halfway decent cast.

Compared to the crap the SyFy channel airs, the B-movies of yesteryear are Oscar shoe-ins. The SyFy channel is owned by NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast. I think most of these OMG EVERYBODY PANIC films on SyFy are produced in-house, and the production values and writing show it. Yuck.

I can't deal with them. Most Sci-Fi Original Movies are just to gory for me watch. My dad and brother like them though.

I think the plots of the Sy-Fy original movies are crafted by a unique method: In one column are the names of places or animals; in another the names of disastrous events.
Thus, you pick "sharks' from column A and 'tornado" from column B and you get "Sharknado". Or you pick "Stonhenge" from column A and 'apocalypse' from column B and you get "Stonehenge Apocalypse". Any hack writer can take it from there.

I'm an admitted fan of cheesy crapfest movies just like this, and I gladly admit I watched it.
It was as awesomely bad as you can imagine. Absolutely awful, and worth every second!

Now, I wouldn't pay one red cent for the privilege of watching them, but if it's free, and I have nothing better to do... (oh, and some good bourbon is an absolute must)... then I'm in.

The not-so-veiled references to movies like Jaws and Independence Day were a nice touch.

LoL I'm thinking more along the lines of the movies: Chimera, Monster Ark, Ice Tornadoes, Stonehenge Apocalypse (has Castiel from Supernatural), etc.

There was one hysterical one where a prisoner got caught in some disaster and ended up being an evil version of the Human Torch. There've been a couple with black holes. The EMP lightning was awesome too, guy's driving down the road and ZAP...his pacemaker quits.

They've had actors like Michael Shanks (Daniel from SG1), a whole slew of the Baldwins (oh how the wanna-be mighty have fallen), etc.

Granted, some of the movies are just painfully ridiculous to watch, but, I'll generally give 'em a shot until my "Even for mindless entertainment this is stupid" limit is reached.

Then again, one of my all time favorite movies is Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (just watched that again last night), so my taste in movies might be suspect (Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke...how high was the casting director when he thought up that pairing?)
