    Nice man! Here's my 1911:

Mine is in .45 ACP. Thanks for sharing this information...I did not know that about Britain. Has Britain ever tried to "impose" it's will, as far as gun laws, where you live?

Great Britain: made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Along with three CROWN DEPENDENCIES, The Isle of Man (where I was born and live), the Channel Islands, Gibraltar.

United Kingdom: made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Crown Dependencies are NOT part of the UK.

Crown Dependencies: are independent of all UK governance with the exception of Foreign Affairs and Defence. They make and uphold their own laws, the have their own currencies, language and culture. They have their own healthcare, education and tax systems.

In 1997 when handguns were banned in the UK, the Crown Dependencies did not see fit to follow suit. Ergo the only place in Great Britain where you can, legally, own and shoot handguns are in the Crown Dependencies territory.

    My gun safe is, currently, home to 2 x .22 rifles, a .243, 2 x .308 rifles, 2 x 12g O/U's, 12g side by side, 12g semi-auto, 12g pump action. And a Ruger SR1911 9mm Lightweight Commander and a Taurus .357 M669 revolver.

    Hope this helps..
Well welcome aboard from Texas. That M669 is a damn nice roscoe.

Well.. yes and no!!, The problem lies in the fact that, most, police forces in the UK tend to interpret UK gun laws to their own advantage. You can have one area where owning to rifles of the same calibre is a no-no, or they make stipulations that a moderator can only be permitted if you go after deer.. Pistols, which I shall explain, are a whole different ball game.. (read on - have some Kleenex handy..!!)

In the UK you are permitted to have what are described as LBR's or LBP's. That is Long Barrelled Revolver's or Long Barrelled Pistols. Since the handgun ban in'97 only these, and black-powder muzzle loaders are allowed. So what is an LBR/LBP?

Well it's a handgun with a barrel length of, at least, 12 inches and an overall length of 24 inches. This is arrived at by adding, integral to the frame so it can't be removed, a brace. (see photos) Oh and you may NOT allow anyone else, when on the range at your club, shoot the pistol...!! There are other 'absurdities' very loosely angled at 'protecting the public' such as the restriction on shotguns being capable of loading more than three cartridges.. anymore than three and they're classed as a firearm and, of course, you have to show 'good reason' for wanting one..!! I could go on, and on, and on but I guess you could be at the end of your Kleenex by now and I hate seeing a man with red, tear stained eyes..!! LOL

Wow, that sucks. Well, if the Democrat/Liberal Left had there way over here, we would not even be able to own ANY type of firearm. It's a non-stop battle over here...sucks too.

Well I'm a member of the original NRA (ours) and the 'Colonial' NRA (yours).. Very impressed when I received my free joining 'gift' a goodly sized range bag..!! That must have cost them a few dollars to ship across the Atlantic to lil' ol' me.. LOL

We have some good friends who live NE of London.. I have taken he and his son out to the range here with an AR, Marlin and some handguns and they enjoyed themselves immensely. His son would emigrate here tomorrow if he could. I hope someday he may be able to do so.

I just want to say "Thank You" to Brits on here, especially for providing the information regarding the breakdown of Great Britain, the U.K, etc. Very educational. I have a lot of respect for the British cops, Investigators, Scotland Yard, etc. Some of us (back in the day Lol) used to study the "bobby" methods in patrol, the armed entry team methods, crime scene investigations, and of course Scotland Yard. I can honestly say, they do a heck of a job in their investigations. Scotland Yard has directly or indirectly helped in more than one investigation in the past, with which I was involved. If you want some interesting reading, research "entry team methods" in the U.K., especially London and surrounding areas. First man (or woman) thru the door carries a Korth 357 revolver. That may have changed recently but it was standard for several years. (if my memory is still working).
    Anyway, thank you!
    My 2 cents.

Forgot to mention that even air rifles (and crossbows)
    **
have to be licenced where I'm living. Not so in the UK BUT.... no licence is needed in England and Wales for an air rifle 12ft lbs or under. Over 12ft lbs and it's considered a firearm and, therefore, has to be on a firearm licence. There are NO air pistols over the maximum limit of 6ft lbs. Over that limit and they would be considered as an illegal firearm as handguns/pistols are banned in the whole of the UK.

    **
It is also illegal to hunt (anything) with a long bow or crossbow in GB..

ALSO: with regards to the amount of ammunition you can have, that's restricted as well. You will be given two quantities on your licence for each calibre of firearm. So, for example, it will say you can HOLD 1000 rounds of .22LR. BUT.. you can only buy 800 rounds..

I'll give you my personal allowances.. It says,

    "Maximum amount authorised to be possessed at any one time": 1000 x .22LR 250 x 9mm 250 x .357/.38

    "Maximum amount to be purchased or acquired at any one time": 900 x .22LR 200 x 9mm 200 x .357 / .38

As for the .308 and .243 when we moved back here 18 months ago I brought with me an accumulation of some 450 rounds of .308 and .243. The local police here had a fit...!! So, before they give me an allowance I have to shoot all that lot off. And I know full well they will severely restrict my allowance in the future. By the way, those maximum amounts also include anything you might reload..!!!

Oh what a fun sport we pursue..

OH HO.. just remembered an exception to the above ammo allowances.. if you're buying shotgun ammo (and NO, you can't have solid slug) you can buy, and store in your home no more than 10,000 cartridges..!! Currently I have around 4000 spread around the house. Unlike rifle / pistol ammo which have to be kept securely locked away, shotgun ammo can be stored more or less anywhere it fits. Go figure..!! LOL
Now for the prices of cartridges. I have looked at the cheapest around for clays and game. For 1000 12g competition cartridges you will pay around $210 - $225. For 12g game cartridges with a 30gram load you will pay around $260 - $300 per 1000. (Any donations gratefully accepted - if it gets through Customs..!! LOL

ManxTom, I "liked" your above post for the information you provided, but I damn sure would not like having to live under those conditions! If those "max" ammo amounts you had in .308 & .243 made the coppers their sod themselves, then they would have fainted if they saw some of the stashes we have over here. Just shows how stupid government types can be.

I read an article once, where there was a serious shortage of rifles in Britain, when they were sure the Germans were going to launch Operation Sea Lion. There was even a program where American civilians sent their rifles to Britain to arm their Home Guard...Churchill was grateful, and made a comment of such simply saying "thank God for the Americans". Now, the Brits really took it to the Germans all on their own, but having a bunch of guns in the hands of the rank and file Englishman, would have certainly caused issues for the Nazis.

I would pity the fool that would try to land on our shores here right now. They would need buckets to catch lead.

I'm 67.. but, some, people of a generation before me never quite got to 'like' the Yanks in WW2. There's an old saying.. "Over paid, over sexed and over here..". It doesn't hold water with me at all. I served in the British Army for 22 years and spent a lot of time with US troops of all branches, Army and Marines. They were all good guys. Have to admit some never quite got to like our beer, but we had good times together both socially and in the field. It was fun teaching them to speak 'proper' English.. LOL EG: a fag is a cigarette, a rubber is an eraser, Stormin' Norman was really British (not true but he could have been..!!). We shared similar phrases.. FUBAR and SNAFU and had our own, NEWTS (Night Exercise With Trees (simulated))..
I was stationed alongside some Rangers in Erlangen in Germany, Trained with Marines in the Med and Cyprus, and also at BATUS, Canada.
Good times, good guys, ropey beer and my undying adoration of the 1911. Semper Fi.
